Getting some very light flurries/snow showevers from first one thats basically confined to westchester and NE. The big line which has a squall warning on all of it should be heading in in next few hrs, its go rip, might be some power outages, hope not.

Re: February 2022 Obs & Discussions
I think the big squall line will be impressive but lets not jinx it, wind has def increased fast, right on que with the wind advisory from 1pm to midnight. Wish I still had a wind meter but the handheld thing I had kinda sucked.frank 638 wrote:same here on the Hutchison River Parkway light snow flurries I hope the next one last when it comes herejmanley32 wrote:Getting some very light flurries/snow showevers from first one thats basically confined to westchester and NE. Mesoscale Discussion 0156
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1158 AM CST Sat Feb 19 2022
Areas affected...CT...RI...MA...NJ...southeast NY...eastern
PA...southern portions of VT and NH...northern portions of MD and DE
Concerning...Snow Squall
Valid 191758Z - 192200Z
SUMMARY...An intense snow squall will continue to accompany an
arctic cold front as it moves rapidly east this afternoon, resulting
in a brief period of blizzard/near-blizzard conditions.
DISCUSSION...Composite radar imagery continues to show an intense
snow squall accompanying a strong cold front that was moving rapidly
east (near 40 kt) across portions of the northeast U.S. at 1755z.
Surface observations and time-lapse camera imagery show rapid
deterioration of visibility along with accumulating snow as the snow
squall moves through, with several METAR observations reporting
brief blizzard conditions.
In the presence of strong and focused ascent along the front through
low-level convergence, low/mid-level frontogenetic forcing and
rapidly cooling surface temperatures, the majority of latest
high-res guidance supports a continuation of the snow squall as it
moves east with the cold front through much of the remainder of this
afternoon. A brief period of heavy snow along with wind gusts of
35-45 mph will result in blizzard or near-blizzard conditions as
visibility is quickly reduced to at or below 1/4 mile.

Re: February 2022 Obs & Discussions
I just got a severe weather alert on my phone for snow squall arrival by 2:30 pm. The sun is out here now! We had some snow showers earlier but it didn’t amount to anything.

It’s here. It’s fun! I definitely wouldn’t say it’s zero visibility out there.

Of course, the break in the line is going to go right over me, that always happens with t-storms and i guess with snow squalls. I can't win lol

Re: February 2022 Obs & Discussions
33. If the second squall line came through, not eventful.
Winds 21 mph and gusts to 45 mph. Blue sky. Never got another snow squall which this morning topped out at a meager 1/4 if that.

Re: February 2022 Obs & Discussions
If any of these squalls came through say at night and it was like 10 degrees, roads would have been a real challenge-slicked up like glass. Fortunately, it was warmer than that says the man who has had the misfortune to drive on Bear Mountain and the Long Mountain thusly.

Re: February 2022 Obs & Discussions
Driving from Salem Mass to home both lines very impressive, but squall line delivered 0 visibility for 5 minutes, winds gusted at least 45 mph was the heaviest daytime snow fall rates I’ve experienced… quite memorable!!!
