January 2024 Observations and Discussion

Definitely a Philadelphia-South Jersey Special. Already 3-4” on the ground in those areas. Philly probably ends up around 5-6”.

Some very cold days and nights ahead. Low teens the next couple nights, maybe single digits Sunday night. Warm-up on-tap next week, but that should be temporary as there are indications of cold air returning week after next into early Feb.

Hearing reports of 3-4 inches in Trenton and Freehold areas also and still coming down.

But Bridgewater is huge. And 78 actually runs through the northern tip of the township. Probably get a lot of variation there, like those east of 202 up on the mountain get more than those near 22 or 287.

Beautiful storm in Long Branch at exit 105 of the GSP. At least 4” of fresh stuff, 5” overall. Hoping for at least one more good inch which judging by radar will happen. Kids are LOVING it !

Fantastic! So many times you get the short end of the snow ruler there while northern areas cash in. You deserve a solid storm there. Congrats!

27.5/27.3 4" light snow

New snow now at 4" with 6" depth bring me up 10.1" seasonal. So will not be 3rd single digit snowfall in 5 years thank goodness. It will stick around for several days and I'm taking this period as the highlight of the winter, but we'll see.

I’m glad south of New Jersey got good snows they haven’t seen snow for a long long time by me. Nothing. I hope by February we will make it up.

Congrats! I was also hoping to get into double digits for the season today, but I’m struggling to get above 2” so I’m going to be stuck at about 8” for the season. But given the pattern this winter, unlike the last two, I’m pretty confident I’ll get into the double digits sometime in February. Won’t take much.

Exactly, Frank and with a lot in our area with a snowpack and cold temperatures , we will enjoy that for 3 or 4 days.

24 degrees, very light snow, slight wind and looks like 2 inches here.

Here in Deer Park I have 28 Degrees and maybe an 1/8 of an inch of snow on the old snowpack. Nothing on the walkways or streets and a dusting on the car. Definitely under whelming here! Radar looks like it will be ending in a few.
  I guess normally I'd be bummed out, but having 23 people over the house to celebrate my dads 95'th Birthday tomorrow, so Im glad we dodged this one...

About 3 inches so far in central Hunterdon County. Moderate snow for most of the day has now lightened up a bit. Beautiful scenery and should be easy to shovel being of the light and fluffy variety. I'' take it.

Maybe we need to look at this like a football team. Last year was a rebuilding year. Trading away all the veteran assets to acquire draft picks and young prospects. Its tough for fans when you're rebuilding the team. Of course we want to be perennial Superbowl contenders, but the truth of the matter is it doesn't work like that. Sometimes it takes several years to rebuild back to a championship caliber team. As long as each year we build upon last then that's a positive...right?

We are just about half way through the season and Id say depending on exactly where you live and what your expectations were the overall record for the season is about 3 and 5, maybe 2 and 6. Give or take a game. Def not in the discussion as a playoff team right now, but when your team only won 3 games all of last season and we still have half of this season yet to play, one can say their is certainly room for optimism and evidence the team has gotten better. We clearly have added some pieces. Decent blocking, some cold air patches, etc. Obv we still need a franchise QB and a few more playmakers on the D-Line and secondary but progress.

Now even if we make a run in Feb and rattle off 3,4,5 wins in a row we still likely wont make the playoffs, but when you're in a rebuilding phase this should certainly leave us all with an optimistic outlook for next season as this one comes to a close.

29/30* all day and amazed how nothing stuck to the roads nor sidewalks. It midish Jan not Feb or worse March!! After a night of 25* for my low and 4 days of below freezing?? Perplexed.

Weak Nina SROC is needed and warm those ENSO water of 7,8,1,2 and GOA , PDO !!! That would hold promise.

5 inches in East Windsor….heaviest snow has been in the last 90 minutes. The German Shepherds are thrilled!

Radar says one more batch of heavy returns to come for most of CNJ and SNJ, but I’m skeptical on that one, at least for my back yard. The snow has lightened up considerably and the flakes have shrunk again, so this usually signals the end of the accumulations down here. Calling 4.5” on top of the 1” already otg. This storm hit many of my most prized criteria: Started early am and lasted through much of the day, no rain and no mixing, instant accumulations, and backbuilding added 2-3 hours of good snowfall to the morning forecast.

Happy that heehaw Irish and Griff also got some decent accumulation today and hopefully some others did as well. Thanks to the Mets for the doing the heavy lifting as per usual! Oh, and sorry for the double posts, not sure why that was happening.
