May 2024 Observations and Discussion
Welcome to May, a day late, hopefully not a dollar short. Some foggy mornings the last couple days to start the month, but the temperatures couldn't be nicer. Let's hope the frequent rain of the last couple months takes a bit of a break as we head closer to the start of the summer season, which unofficially kicks off just over three weeks (3!) from now with Memorial Day Weekend!

64* and Mostly Cloudy, but the sunshine should break out in the next couple hours as we head into the 80s again.

Re: May 2024 Observations and Discussion
Just for good order, I want to revisit this post from the April thread:
The convection that developed yesterday near the Dominican Republic/eastern Cuba and has been moving eastward was the signal mentioned above. Unfortunately, it appears that a fairly robust Saharan air layer combined with a relatively less than favorable MJO pulse and neutralizing upper-level divergence prevented it from spinning up. The signal was there, and the convection was there, but the expected result was not.
Good thing it’s only the pre-season, though, so it can at least be argued whether or not it should count against my overall record

It was a lovely day today. A lot of outside work got done before Sunday's rain. It was 68 today. Janet, I think your word will describe Sunday: a gully washer.

18z GFS shows rain most of the day tomorrow after about noon, is this incorrect?

Re: May 2024 Observations and Discussion
Forcast says light steady rain sun (not exactly a gully washer) and scattered showers sat night, as I stated 18z GFS shows rain most of the day tomorrow which would be unexpected and suck.dkodgis wrote:It was a lovely day today. So it’s 50 at almost 6 pm. 2 inches of rain. Will rain here until about 8 pm. Not a gully washer but steady. I’ll stick to the horses. I can’t predict weather.

52* and Cloudy with a steady light rain here. Has been raining at varying intensity, mostly light, throughout the day. In a word: Nasty. Let's hope we are getting this chilly weather and weekend rain cycle out of our system before the Memorial Day weekend in two weeks.

Have never seen the Northern Lights other than pictures and video. Probably AI-generated. Not sure they exist.

45 degrees, partly cloudy, calm winds.Looks like increasing clouds with showers and rain the next few days up here.Everything at the peak of greenness now.
