Watch us from afar in this big storm that is bearing down us- things are getting interesting as the Winter Storm Warnings are going up soon for us here in NJ - they upped our totals so far - 3-6 last night by the NWS has gone up to 6-10" -almost now casting time kid but have fun on the beach, by the pool and do not bring that warmth this way or I will personally drive to PP with my long shore buddies and give you the ol' Italian Job. Only kidding!!

Ace, honestly wouldn't you rather be up here in a snow event instead of in Florida on the beach sweltering in the glaring sun? Come on you know you'd rather be here. Especially being the snow lover that you are. lol !

All of what you said is very true...lol. Sadly I didn't have a say in it. But all I know is when I'm older, winter vacations will be a no.SNOW MAN wrote:Ace, honestly wouldn't you rather be up here in a snow event instead of in Florida on the beach sweltering in the glaring sun? Don't worry Ace if this weather pattern keeps up they'll be plenty more storms to come. Hopefully this season will be a cold and snowy one. Let's cross our fingers. I know I'm looking forward to it. Have a good time and enjoy yourself.

I was flipping channels earlier and stop at the Weather Channel for a minute and saw that they had a map for Christmas Eve and it was showing snow amounts from a possible storm that day. That would really would make a nice Christmas Imo

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
There will be icing concerns tonight. The snow melt combined with temps below freezing will call for lots of icing.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
Some of the short-range models are really blowing this clipper system up around the BM, and bringing a swath of 6+ inches of snow over SNE and north of NYC as well. A trend with the storms this season I have noticed is the amount of energy stored in the short waves ejecting out of the polar jet are pretty high. One reason why I think this is the case is due to the state of the Tropopause and it is called a "tropopause fold." Essentially, this is when heights in the tropopause around the PJS (polar jet stream) area rapidly drop (to the latitude of 500 mb). This prevents stratospheric air from entering the tropopause zone and causes warm advection aloft (around 300 hPa), which results higher amounts of energy to be embedded within these short waves.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
Now that this storm is out of the way, I am going to be taking a little break for a bit until school finals are over. Friday is my last final. I'll post here and now, but won't be around much. You can expect a warmup this weekend into the 50's---maybe 60's on Sunday. Rain will also come Saturday and Sunday. Not a great weekend, but good if you like the warmth.
I'll update the long range thread on Thursday.

Re: December 2013 Observations & Discussions
I'm back. Finals are over. I'm up at this hour because the NJ Transit trains back home from NYC got stuck last night on their tracks, so I took 3 different methods of transportation home. I'm off from school for a month, but now I'll be working more hours. It's ok though...
I'll update the weather with a blog probably Sunday. The storm signal for New Year's Eve is still there, but not sure yet if the pattern supports one. Not much else to talk about other then the warmer temps this weekend and rain threat this weekend as well. Then it will get much colder again by Xmas.

. Yea, those mostly sunny skies are warming things up. 61 in the city. If it wasn't going to be rainy and cloudy tomorrow, the city would definitely have hit 70.Dtone wrote:Temps are overachieving for some. More sun than expected? I'm at 60..
