Noah did not have it last night.Knew in the first inning we were in trouble when he used up a lot of pitches. These starters have to finish 7 innings as we have no 7th inning man plus anybody other than Clippard and Familia (Robles, Torres, Gilmartin) are just terrible.Problem is, they have a leash on the young starters innings.

Coors Field, man, a 6 run lead early on was not safe,LOL! Mugsy was right, Cespedes is a beast! What a night!Nice to see the long relief only surrender 2 runs in that nuthouse. Clippard and Familia perfect!!!!!Washington loses.

Tough to lose Lucas' bat but other guys can fill in.Saw Cuddyer playing first.Hopefully Wright can get up to par. They can rest him now and then with Uribe or Danny.Lot's of options now for Collins.

Read that Matz is about to return. That would solve inning count problems for the other starters.

Mets 2015 Season - Page 18 Empty Re: Mets 2015 Season

There is a baseball sabermetric called "Gamescore" which rates the performance of a starting pitcher.  You start with 50 and add various points for outs and subtract various points for hits, walks, and runs allowed.  Last night was only the second time this season that the Mets won a game when the starting pitcher had a Gamescore of 45 or below as Colon got lit up giving up seven runs in three and two-thirds innings.  His Gamescore last night was 14.  The other game in this category was June 14th against the Braves when Dillon Gee got lit up for a Gamescore of 10(!) and the Mets won 10-8, coming back from an 8-3 deficit.  And this when when we had our get together at Jenkinson's and Doc was cursing out the Mets when they were trailing.  With the exception of those two games, the Mets do not win games when their starting pitcher doesn't do well.

Here are the Gamescores for the 2015 Mets (they're on the right hand side of the screen):

Math, great stuff!

Just goes to show good hitting bails out poor pitching especially in that bandbox Coors Field. We maintain 5 game lead going into the end of August.

5.5 now in first place

Wow this team is on fire right now. Another game with more than 10 runs and 20 hits. They have scored the most runs in the NL since the all star break. Degrom didn't do well at all tonight but the hitting was plenty. 8 homers set a new franchise record. All the homers weren't cheap shots either.

This is what Chipper Jones said

What in God's green earth has gotten into this team? 14,14,16 runs one game with 8 homers! Great return for the Captain.Gotta tip the hat to Gilmartin who put out the fire after Jacob's crappy start. We need long relief like that and this guy is doing the job! A Plus game!

Great outing by Colon. Eric scares me in the pen. They should DFA him and bring up Rice and see how he does. The hitting is on fire. They have hit 40 homers this month. Amazing. Remember when this team had Mayberry batting 4th? lol. Seems like a long time ago. Mets are now 70-56 and have won 6 in a row. 6.5 game lead.

Yeah, hitting hasn't been this good since the Beltran-Delgado days.

O Flaherty and Torres are terriblr.Might consider making Matz a long relief guy or try rice as Snow88 says.Definite weak spot there.

Got to put all this great performance in context, we're beating up a crappy team.Let's see us do it against the Pirattes or Cubs.

Mets win 9-5 after losing 5-0 earlier in this game. Niese didn't pitch well at all but this team keeps on finding ways to win. The bullpen was awesome . They now have won 7 in a row and are still 6.5 games in first place with a 71-56 record. They were 8-1 on this past roadtrip. They have also hit 42 homeruns so far this month. Great baseball.

Cespedes since joining the Mets

One thing that this team has is heart. They are never out of games. Cespedes was just under that pitch. I thought that was gone when it left his bat.

Those choke years of 2007 and 2008 are bitter memories and I hope that doesn't happen again.Power suddenly disappeared, we should be wiping the floor with these guys in last place.

Payback for 1986, I guess.

Can't win them all, they all looked tired, got in late from Philly, extra innings last night and a day game today. Let's see how they do in the next few games. They traded for Addison Reed, a reliever from the Dbacks, now they can get rid of O'Flaherty

Payback for 1986, I guess.

If you take the sum of the last two digits of the years of those two collapse ('07 and '08), you get '15, this year.

In the final 5 and a half weeks of those two years, many games they lost were winnable.  In my mind, 11 out of the Mets 19 losses down the stretch in 2007 (from 8/26 to 9/30) were games they really could have won and 10 of the Mets 16 losses down the stretch in 2008 (from 8/23 to 9/28) were games they really could have won.  The one that really stings was 9/24/08 the Wednesday night game against the Cubs at Shea Stadium.  After Carlos Delgado hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 5-1 lead in the 3rd inning, Oliver Perez gave it back and couldn't get out of the 5th inning. From the 5th through 9th innings, they left so many runners on base.  The one that REALLY hurt was the bottom of the 9th when it was tied at six and Murphy lead off with a triple! I was so excited about that play and really thought we would win especially since David Wright, Carlos Delgado, and Carlos Beltran due up next.  They decided to go after David Wright, he got the count to 3-0, then fouled off a couple of pitches and then chased a pitch out of the strike zone for strike three for the first out (to date, that is the one at-bat I take out of Wright's career whether you like it or not).  Then they intentionally walked Delgado and Beltran to load the base up.  Ryan Church (who had two concussions earlier in the year) grounded into fielder's choice at home for the second out and then Ramon Castro struck out on three pitches to send the game into extras.  In the top of the 10th, Luis Ayala (who became the interim closer after Billy Wagner got injured) gave up three runs, including a home run to Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez.  All the base runners for the Cubs that inning were with two outs.  The Mets lost 9-6.  I was a college freshman then and it was a bitter loss. Mad

All I can say is the Mets better get going again, especially since the Nationals have configured their rotation so that Scherzer, Strasburg, and Zimmermann face the Mets from September 7th to 9th.  I have been waiting for quite some time for some postseason baseball from the Mets.  Only once since 2001 (2006) have they had just that! Mad

From 2006 to 2008, there was a chance for at least two World Series wins.We got nada. All that Minaya maneuvering and trading yielded a big fat goose egg.

Although 1986 was a great year with a team that beat up the NL all year, they almost lost the World Series but for a gift choke play by Buckner.

The all time best Met Team for my money was the 1969 team who won the World Series against a powerhouse Baltimore team DECISIVELY!

We will see if this year's team will match that when the tough teams come up.

Your right about the Nats, Math. They have all their weapons ready and are sharpening them for the 6 games with us.We have to win the division as we are too far back for any wild card spot.

That is good news as we need a good 7th inning man.Only reliable bullpen arms are Clippard and Familia, a definite weak spot right now.

It's interesting that the Mets have only 33 games left to play and only nine of those games are against winning teams, six against the Nationals and three against the Yankees).  But keep in mind that in 2007, 13 of their last 14 games were against the Nationals and Marlins, who, in that division, were the 4th and 5th place teams, respectively, that year.
