man, I thought fishing would have been a fun way to spend the afternoon, instead we're talking about it and doing sports trivia, haha! I'll take a stab before I sign out for the day, Kirk Gibson?

If  Tampa Bay, Boston or Baltimore expresses an interest, the Yanks will have more incentive to keep him.If he goes National League or AL Central or West, I'd agree with you.
Great game the other night, Price of Tampa Bay goes the distance in their must win game over Texas.

Last night Pittsburgh won and moved on.Rooting for them all the way.

Good one tonight, Tampa Bay vs Cleveland, winner take all game.Really enjoying this new format of the extra wild card team.

Doc,

I hear you - makes things interesting. I think if Tampa beats Cleveland then they have a good shot at the Red Sox - Tampa plays/pitches them tough. I hope Boston folds like a house of cards!!

Any guess to my trivia question:

What player played on a team in each of the four old divisions (A.L East, West. NL East, West - timeframe being 70’s and 80’s) and was an all-star on each of the teams??????????????

It's a good one and a Yankee fan may have the inside track.

I know Winfield played on the Yanks (AL East), Padres ( NL West) I think he finished with the Blue Jays (AL East) so we're missing AL west and NL East on that one. Reggie played his entire career in the AL so that leaves Mickey Rivers. Braves, Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers.

He was a great pitcher in his day.

Great pitching again by Tampa Bay.Cleveland had many guys on base but couldn't come across.Boston-Tampa Bay should be great.

Swisher left two stranded, that's why he's not a Yankee anymore.
I'd like to see the Pirates take it to the house, that would be a nice story. But I think Boston is stacked and healthy, they're the likely favorite, plus they are hungry and without the Yankees in their way, going to be tough to beat.

Thought the same about Nick "Choke" Swisher.Still can't produce in the offseason.

Pulling for Pittsburgh all the way but very tough teams out there, La, Detroit, Boston.

Pitching, pitching ,pitching is the key to teams getting into the World Series.Wainright of Cards and Kershaw of Dodgers, two masters who showed how to get it done.Poor Burnett played like he was back on the Yanks, LOL, he got bombed.Hurdle was sleeping at the switch, AJ should have been yanked sooner. You've got to win the first in a 3 out of 5 playoff.Didn't really matter, Pirates never got back in the game.

Wow, what kind of baseball fans are on this thread, incredible playoff games and no comments?

Boston puts away Tampa Bay in a great pitchers duel, Peavy going 6.Victorino is incredible, the guy gets hit in the elbow and ribs and still beats out an infield hit! Victorino and Ellsbury batting a combined over 500!

Glad for Don Mattingly, he made a gutsy call pitching Kershaw on three days rest.If the Pirates don't make it, I'll be pulling for the Dodgers and Don all the way.

Great game on tonight, winner take all, Pittsburgh vs St.Louis.Pittsburgh is starting a rookie tonight!

It was a great effort but, sadly, not enough. The playoffs are ruthless in weeding out the weaker teams.A couple of key Pirate hitters batted miserably plus McCutcheon did not come across either.

It will be a great NLDS and you could be right about the Cards.Witout Kemp or Eithier, the Dodgers are weaker,I will root for Don Mattingly, a true champion who just missed out on all those great Yankee seasons. He should have those WS rings on like Jeter.

Good game tonight Oakland and Detroit.

I'm sorry your A's came up a little short last night, Mugs. That kid pitched his heart out against Verlander but Verlander's one of the best and he came through last night.

Boston vs Detroit....a classic old time AL matchup for the pennant.Should be a lot of fun.Going to pull for Detroit and the old timer Leyland.

Doc,

How about this for a stat - Verlander is 6-0 at the Oakland Coliseum with a .31 ERA!!!! - and the A's are 1-12 with a position to clinch game 5 or 7 of a playoff series since 1990 - talk about a curse!! It will be a good series - I am interested to see how the big bats of Boston do against Scherzer and the "V" - he is a frickin machine.

That kid Gray is going to be nasty - could be another Tim Hudson - just needs to get that change up going and I have faith that Curt Young and Billy Beane will do the right thing. Great run and fun team to follow (A's) this year. On to the weather and other things!

Extra inning game won by Beltran's hit.Poor Donnie getting second guessed today by some armchair manager sportswriters for yanking his heavy hitters for pinch runners and not having them in the later innings.Donnie felt something hit in the gap would have brought in the lead run with speed on the bases.Glad I'm not in his shoes this morning.
