I don't know who that is in Twp., but they are always low, they must measure after compacting. Someone else in Twp measured 7". I measure as I go and never measure more than an hour after an event

CPK and Logan are just about even currently for seasonal snowfall totals. I don't how many times CPK has exceeded BOS but probably not too many times over the last 100 years.

Mikey, alias math23x7 did a comparison a couple of years ago. I believe there were only 18 times that NYC had more than Boston, which sounds about right. If we did a comparison of NYC and WDC it would probably be about the same in NYC favor.

Re: Weather Statistics Thread
As of last night the very tight snowfall competition between NYC and Boston has the double digit underdog NYC ahead 38.6 inches to 38.4 inches. I'd still put my money on Boston to pull ahead in March.

Re: Weather Statistics Thread
It looks very likely that CPK will finish higher than Logon this season. That's remarkable albeit not unheard of. March was devoid of snow in CPK and Logon recorded .1"
An interesting year to say the least...
CPK --> 38.6"
BOS --> 38.5"

Re: Weather Statistics Thread
A little late on this but the January 27-28 storm which was recorded as 8.3 inches in central park, probably low by about 1.5 inches but it’s what goes down in the books, becomes the 100th storm of 8.3 inches or more since 1869 when official records have been kept in NYC.
There really should have been a parade.

Re: Weather Statistics Thread
I have composed a random list of 10 NYC snowstorms of at least 1' with their 500mb patterns 1 week up to the start of the storm. The January 1996 storm had the least HL blocking west or east of Greenland. The rest had sig blocking west/east of Greenland. As I have said the PAC is important for amplification of the storm as well as cold air transport, but it must be aligned with the Atlantic domain. Moreover, IMO, there's more margin for error with the blocking as any storm that slows down can produce and it's also much more likely the SE ridge is kept at bay. Final point to keep in mind is nothing can be too hostile either as the other factors can only compensate so much. January 2022 had some east based blocking and was very close to all the right pieces for PHL/NYC and surrounding NW burbs.
NYC unless there is a big dog storm tends to receive < 40" of snow a very vast of majority of the time. My point is NYC doesn't nickel and dime it's way to 40" season and neither does PHL and of course DC rarely sees that kind of snow.
Here are the storms in order of date descending order. Some of these are quite memorable!
January 31 2021 17.4"

January 22 2016 27.5"

January 26 2011 19"

Dec 26 2010 20"

Feb 25 2010 20.9"

Feb 11 2006 26.9"

Dec 30 2000 12"

Jan 6 1996 20"

Feb 11 1983 17.6"

Feb 19 1979 12.7"
