My hazardous weather outlook from the NWS came back today. You know its been a bad winter so far when this is a ray of light.

I just think these unfortunate events have taken a toll on everyone and no one has faith anymore.

Re: The PLAY PEN-- Banter Thread 4.0
I know everyone is enthused about this Sunday storm, but honestly these are my least favorite storms. I hate the whole rain/snow line, mixing issues, snow changing to rain thing. Even when I get a significant snow (at the outset or the end) I spend the whole storm thinking either my snow is about to turn to rain, or my rain isn't going to turn to snow. It ruins the storm. lol. Obviously everyone would rather have those storms where it is all snow and the only question is how much, so that's not saying much. But to be honest, I also would take a guaranteed 2-4" or 3-6" minor snow event where I know its all snow, to one of these thermal profile messes where the potential is there for a foot or more -- but you could also end up with a soaking rain and some slush.

Re: The PLAY PEN-- Banter Thread 4.0
The long snowless period hasn't helped any. I think most, if not all, of us are looking at this storm as the end of what has been a very unpleasant winter and the prospect of having to worry about tracks and temp profiles in tight confines making such a huge difference is a little disconcerting. I've spent a couple days in the bullseyes for a huge snowfall and now I'm seeing everybody get hyped about the UK being onto something so the unease is creeping into the back of my mind.

Yeah, I think if we had already had a couple good snow storms in the last few weeks, there would be less angst about this. People could be excited for its possibilities/potential even knowing that that it could go sideways on us at the end, because they would have had their "snow thirst" satisfied by some prior storms. lol.

Re: The PLAY PEN-- Banter Thread 4.0
I learned at a very young age to hate going to bed to the silence of the falling snow only to then wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of sleet or rain drops pelting my window. It was all I needed to hear to know my beloved snow was being turned into a gray pile of slush. Didn't even need to look out the window. Happened more times than I want to count. These types of storms always give me awful flashbacks to those disappointments. That said, I always knew the people well to my N and W were probably making out like bandits on the snow, so there would still be hope for you in that scenario Aresian. lol.

For all of the excitement about what might or might not happen, there is one downside to this. For the last 24-36 hours, I've barely gotten anything done because I'm constantly checking for new posts. By the time the storm actually gets here, I'm going to be what feels like a year behind.

Channel 4 are such a bunch of ignoramuses I swear - just watched and they said a rain to snow scenario for teh city and just outside but N & W mostly snow and ice and look at the warm temperature on Sunday 38* then plummeting - they make it sound like Sunday will be a warmer day - WTF??
I hope this trends south and stick it up their arses. Why do I watch at times.

The “pro” Mets on TV in the NYC area are as a group HORRENDOUS. I like
Lonnie but the rest of them
Are brutal. They are also incredibly conservative when it comes to snow.
When I was a kid on channel 9 I fell in love with weather and snow because of Loyd Lindsey Young. Heelllllooooooooooooooo.

You guys are really B oston obsessed.
You do realize they have had 0.2 inches of snow so far this whole season, and during the November 15th storm they had all rain except the 0.2 inches of snow at the end when most in our area had 6-12 inches of snow.
Being east hurts them as much as it sometimes helps. The storm could go either way for them and has just as much a chance of being rain and slop there because of how far east they are as here. 30 miles N&W of NYC has a better chance to do well in this storm than Red Sox Suck IMO. WTS both sections may very well be screwed by Freezing rain.
And it has become evident that you my good friend are a closeted Red Sox Suck Defender. Any time someone mentions Red Sox Suck you pop up within a second with a defense. It’s like someone’s picking on your mom ?
The complete opposite my mental health expert friend, and brother.
So many seem to post the highest fantasy totals on any model they see and then tout Red Sox Suck as some kind of snow heaven. The water, and their eastern location screw them for the same reason LI or SE CT gets screwed or helped at times. Of course it's further north than LI so they average more per season but less per season than most areas 35 miles or more North of NYC like the snow capital of our region the HV.
As I initially said the scoreboard this year is as follows.
B oston......0.2 inches
NYC..........6.4 inches
HV..........12.4 inches
2017/18 season
NYC.........40.9
B oston....59.9
HV...........83.5
And the winner is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two points. Unrelated.
1. I agree with CP. We always get worked up about Red Sox Suck, but other than that one winter a few years back they rarely seem to do any better than us. Personally, for snow, I'd rather be here than there most years.
2. Lloyd Lindsey Young was the best. I wasn't even living in the immediate NYC area at that time, but we got Channel 9 and me and my dad would watch just to see his weather reports.

Trying to see if I can read this map at all...is the circle between the arrows where the heaviest banding for all snow would be?

Time to complain a little
The fact it has been this cold for so long (like the first 3 weeks of December) and we are looking at rain for Sunday is just incomprehensible. It has been ARCTIC cold for a week and in the next 5 days that will continue. We will warm up to above freezing during the exact 6-8 hour stretch of our best moisture supply in the last two weeks and probably for the following week as well
This winter is EASILY the most frustrating in a loooioooooooiooooooooong time.
Rant over for now

Still don't have any rain yet in my area forecasted. There is a switch to ice then back to snow. This storm has the potential to make everyone miserable.

Reiterating what I said above, I hate these snow-to-rain type storms. Especially if the snow part is early at night. “Front-end thump” does nothin for me when it happens late Saturday evening then rains all Saturday night. By the time I wake up Sunday the ground will be wet or just slushy slop.

IF YOU DRAW A LINE FROM PHILLY NE TOWARDS NYC AND SOUTHERN CT AND BACK DOWN TO ATLANTIC CITY THIS WILL BE OVER TWO MONTHS OF NOTHING. MEANWHILE SOUTH WEST AND NORTH WILL BE OVER 20”. I AM ABSOLUTELY SHOVKED AT GHE RAGE I FEEL AS I SAID ITS ONLY WEATHER. HOLY CRAP

We are all adults here. The weather will do what it wants. There is a play pen to post the non sense. The storm hasn't even happened yet.
I m going on record as saying my back yard will get 3-6" of front end snow and sleet before the changeover.
We must be in Haiti, because I just read a post from Papa Sroc.

Im not expecting much right now. Its the call of this winter. Good luck to all and lets hope for cold results today and appreciate what we have. Yes, I am very frustrated, but we can't control this weather.
However, a cold sacrifice of a Warmacist, or the freezing of an oven may push the odds of the Gods in our favor! (just sayin). In times like this we need all we can get.
