Re: Memories of 2018
Thanks so much tgula, that was a great video, and thanks for making this your first post.
I took 3 screen shots of the video that more or less summed up my winter last year.
First is the GOAT 10 hrs of snow: Jan 4, 2018, Ocean County NJ. A lot of us scored big time on this one, so this is a memory that we can all share in (though not everyone will hold this one as dear as I do).
Second is a day that was probably only memorable to me, and not for a great reason. Last Super Bowl Sunday, I drove to Jax Florida to see my dad. He was failing health then, so I just had to go. This is what my 16 hour drive looked like from Philly to Savannah. (PS: Dad made a full recovery and has been doing great!)
And finally, we all remember March 21. Some experiences are just really memorable, and cool. A springtime blizzard and lots of Thunder Snow certainly is one of those experiences.

Great video. And SENJ I did the same thing you did (though I didn’t memorialize it as well as you, haha). As I watched I picked out the dates and events I could remember and even cross-referenced with sons of the pics I took on those days of those weather events.

Congratulations tgula, you will be receiving two complimentary tickets to the 2019 NJS Weather Forum Zilla Ceremony. Your chances are looking good as you are now the only nominee in your category.
Good luck and good posting.

CPcantmeasuresnow,
As the only nominee for this prestigious award, I am honored. No meteorologist by any stretch of the imagination, I've actually visited this site for years. In my former life as a public school employee I was the go-to guy when anyone wanted to know their chances of an upcoming snow day. Just today, for example, I received a teacher's with this screenshot from their phone's weather app, wanting to know what's up with this forecast for Fri-Sun, Jan 18-20. I told them I'd check here and get back to them once the experts have weighed in.

Digging through the archives, my first post on this forum was on January 8th, 2013, days after Frank created it. He talked about how a potential pattern change would happen a week out. I then brought up how the 2006-07 winter had warm weather for much of December and the first half of January and how there was a dramatic shift to colder temperatures, but all we really had to show for it on the coast were the ice storms on 2/14 and 3/16 (though you CP had more in the way of snow from those two systems). Notice my post is at the bottom of this image. And Ryan Ettinger (Noreaster; remember him) brought up concerns that because it was over a week out, he had doubts about it. It turns out, the shift to colder weather happened January 21st. While there was occasional warmth in between, in general we had below normal temperatures in 2013 from January 21st to April 7th, with two noteworthy snowstorms: February 8-9 (aka "Nemo" which buried portions of eastern LI) and March 7-8 (which underperformed miserably in DC but slightly overperformed here).
It's funny how now, while I do think it will turn much colder by months end, I am concerned it turns out more like 2006-07 than 1977-78 or 2014-15. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess.
Here is the image btw:
