May 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
Last day of April brought widespread 3-5 inch rainfall amounts to the area. Crazy stuff!
Weekend looks OK. Some clouds and maybe a shower on Saturday. Temps in the 60's
Next week- WARM
Specifically Wednesday-Saturday with temps getting into the 80's

Do you guys think that batch of rain over PA will make it in NYC southern westchester area? I am supposed to be doing a yard sale today but do not want everything to get wet, it looks like it may be disipating. Thanks for anyones input.

My daughter is going to Great Adventure Friday, she'll be glad it's warm, although she may have to contend with some thunderstorms....

Actually, there may be an east wind on Wednesday/Thursday that could keep temps along the immediate coast lower.

Big warm-up looking less likely and more muted, as has been the theme since late last summer.

looks like the warm up will be delayed until Sunday. thurs temps may not get out of the 50's. best chance to see 80's will be well away from the coast (w/c n.j.). water temps to cold, plenty of cloud cover with off and on showers plus ground/soil very moist after latest flooding rains. ground needs to dry up before we see widespread 80's and 90's. still 60's and 70's very pleasant!

I do not think nyc, li, conn and jersey shore will see 80* with this warm up coming. if central park doesn't get to 80* with this warm up it probably will not reach 80* until very end of month or in june.

Re: May 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
We'll see what happens...regardless it will feel warmer by Wednesday since winds will no longer be coming out of the northwest. One issue is it could be unsettled Thursday-Sunday with scattered showers and t-storms with weak s/w disturbances coming out of the northern stream.

heat in south central US not going to reach us. warm front not expected to move thru until early sat. by that time air mass will have cooled substantially. maybe a few 80's this weekend into early next week in the usual hot spots well away from the coast.

Re: May 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
Maps showing the good old back door cold front giving fron CNJ on north the cold shaft - chilly, raw with winds off the great body of water to our east aka the Atlantic.
Looks like we get going this upcoming weekend sat for newark north we get to mid 60's then sunday we may hit upper 70's up here but more so next week as temps have a good surge as far as what euro is showing.
The temp cut off will be sharp from the coast to inland and from CNJ and Newark to NNJ if you will on these days. The north will win the battle of suppressing the south and its warm air until this weekend - gotta love NNJ !!

Stretch of pretty decent weather continuing, again, conditions will become unsettled in a few days but it doesnt look like a constant downpour but a couple days of showers and t storms. Temps holding in the 60s and 70s during the day and 40s and 50s at night.

67* a little breezy with mostly sunny skies. a nice day! tomorrow and fri temps mostly in the 50's (which is about 15* below normal) and some light rain and drizzle as we will have an approaching warm front. it should move through on sat. with temps rising into the 70's which is normal for mid may.

Re: May 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
Thurs and Fri = raw and rainy then we turn and Mothers Day looks to be great - sunny and warm. Then we hit the stretch through Tues that looks to be the same warm. the GFS is showing record old for Wed (?) into Thurs with a strong cold front moving through but we know the models overdue this so time will tell but record cold = low 40's to mid 30's for colder spots like NW NJ or Snowman land and the HV.algae888 wrote:67* a little breezy with mostly sunny skies. a nice day! tomorrow and fri temps mostly in the 50's (which is about 15* below normal) and some light rain and drizzle as we will have an approaching warm front. it should move through on sat. with temps rising into the 70's which is normal for mid may.

Still think we aren't going to scour out the marine layer fully on Saturday.Frank_Wx wrote:Saturday looks warm. Low to mid 80's
Sunday is a different story.
Monday could even make a run for 90, then we cool down.
It's a little early to start talking about this, but could we see our first widespread strong thunderstorm threat late in the day on Monday?

Monday and Tuesday next week there could be some thunderstorms. Not thinking severe at the moment. Saturday due to rain and cloud cover we probably won't get into the 80's, but Sunday-Tuesday next week is a different story. 90's possible!

Re: May 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
At this time next week im seeing a threat for thunderstorms and possibly our first severe threat. Im seeing potential for significant lifting and our first moderate CAPE values of the season, as indicated by this morning's GFS run, will be monitoring this and posting updates.

0z Euro has 85-90 degrees for the entire area on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is still showing the potential of a big rain event next week.
