Wow, missing all the action! I'm in California, and with the time difference I can't keep up with what's going on 3 hours ahead of where I'm at! It was 105* here in Fresno today, now 9:00 at night it is still 94* and not a cloud in the sky......heading north to Oregon tomorrow so we'll see what the day brings....hope all of you are ok and didn't sustain any damage.

Dunnzoo as I understand widespread wind damage in PA and NJ, not sure about our folks no one has really been on. But between the 3 states and even COneds area of NYC and westchester almost 200,000 power outages. Even here in westchester as it died out the winds really kicked up but no damage.

Hey ace, yeah I see the cells blossoming, seems going to be alot of t-storm events this summer. Algae read the local news, a tree came down on the cross county parkway crushing a convertible with a man inside (unharmed) right near the broad street overpass in Mt. Vernon, yeah there was almost no rain with it just abrief heavier shower in Yonkers but a few gusts must have hit about 40-50mph, I was outside when it blew through, was wild, nothing but wind. The wind gusts were very localized as is with many gust fronts. Today will be very localized a watch is possible according to SPC north of here, although the slight is down to the NYC area.

Re: July 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
dtone it was confirmed by Cuomo to be the deadliest with 4 dead including a infant since records have been kept since 1950. It had winds over 100mph and one house got lifted into the air traveled 150 yards and landed on top of another house. Wow, I actually would NOT want to see any of that. Just goes to show you that weather is getting a bit more extremem up this way in past years. Probably only going to get worse.

Not that bad out today. Walked to the train station and had a nice breeze. The wind last night was pretty heavy when I took the trash out. There was a huge branch on a neighbors car.

A lot of warnings just north of me. 3 so far. That storm in western jersey looks beastly. Is it moving ne or east. Looks like more east. And may be forming a line further south of it.

I like all seasons, and sometimes you get hit sometimes you don't (snowstorms too as we know grrrr). Honestly you have a lot more chances of t-storms (even if you do not get hit) in a summer than snowstorms in a winter but I love em' all regardless! I got some beautiful cloud pics as a little rouge storm moved across manhattan, sky was dark but looked on fire. I will post when I get a chance.

The ocean temperatures have taken a drastic turn colder this past week. Someone said it has to do with the wind and upwelling. How long does this "upwelling" usually last? Hoping for some warmer waters at the beach soon!

Water temps are chilly, they been running cold since winter, it look like temps were starting to catch up during June but Hurricane Aruthur churned up the ocean bringing the cold deep waters to the surface. I like the beach but its hard to enjoy the cold water unless its very hot out which we haven't had much sustained heat so far.
When its not raining its been a mostly pleasant summer so far.

Man that is one heck of a t-storm thats not moving at all over NJ. Looks like it will be into NYC and southern westchester in a long time. If it e er decides to move. What makes these storms stationary, I have always wondered this.

Will it make it to NYC? It seemed not likely but I haven't looked at radar in a while.

Looks north of NYC, flash flood warning in NJ. Flash flood advisory east of there but north of NYC. May move eventually into southern westchester. It literally is just sitting there for hours.

The term is new to me, but I can say the ocean temps do vary with certain currents day to day but this week it dropped by like 20 degrees. I wonder if the water temperature can increase as quickly as it dropped. I'm having my doubts.

Nope, the rain will not make it to NYC. It's basically disappearing before our eyes ATM.

Wow it really did just vanish. It died with the sunset.
I didn't know water temps fell that much!
I hear some very chilly air is coming to the midwest for this time of year..like highs in the 50s & 60s and lows in the 30s possible in spots wtf.

Water temps. actually fell because of upweling from Hurricane Arthur. It is a nice day today. Low humidity, temps in the mid-80's.

Re: July 2014 Observations / Discussions Thread
Here's what I'm expecting over the course of the next few days:
Tomorrow morning should feature mainly sunny skies, nth clouds will gradually build with an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the late afternoon into the evening hours.
Monday will be mainly cloudy with periods of rain as a front rides along the outer periphery of an oncoming trough. The front will move extremely slowly and may not clear pass our area until Tuesday night. Along the front could spark severe thunderstorms. It's very difficult to tell right now how strong these storms may get. Just realize the potential is there due to the unstable state of the atmosphere.
Tuesday will be like Monday, with clearing expected after 7pm.
Total rainfall will average between 1-2 inches. However, cases where thunderstorms stall over the area will result in total rainfall amounts (Sunday through Tuesday) to be 2-3+ inches. I have a feeling most of the area will see at least two inches of rain.
