1pm also LaGuardia has recorded .6 inches since 10 a.m. that doesn't make much sense. National Weather Service needs one of us snow weenies to take measurements at various airports during snow storms that's the only way we'll get accurate information although maybe skewed towards higher amountsCPcantmeasuresnow wrote:algae888 wrote:9" in the park 9.6" at lga. Jman I do love you but, people must be accountable for what they say even in times of duress. As many of us approach or exceed a foot of snow I believe this post from this morning deserves some form of suspension. Possibly no mentions of wind of any kind for two weeks? I will leave that to the Administrators.

billg315 wrote:Just shoveled. Snow has ended except a few flakes. Looks like the back edge stalled just east of me. Oh well. Lol. So my best measurement here is just under 6.5", but it really didn't fall evenly with the wind so add or subtract .5" depending on where you put the ruler. I will warn this: shovel this afternoon or evening, even if a little snow is still falling, because by tomorrow morning this wet snow will be frozen in place like a rock.
Decided to heed your advice bill, and bottom layer is from the start of the storm and all sleet, but as it got colder the top layer gets lighter. My attempt was futile though because of the wind, man is it howling. As its only going to get colder as the day progresses, if you have to shovel, take bill's advice and do it sooner rather than later if possible.

Same here. 23 with moderate snow and blowing snow. Was going to go out and shovel but I'll wait until accumulating snow is done.

Huge bust for Ocean County and the Jersey Shore. 2 inches tops. Not near what I thought after the forecast. At least I got a day off of school, but really only wind here in Toms River.

Why was the forecast so wrong for Ocean County? Everyone had us at least 6 inches, but were saying way more, what happened?

It looks like when the heaviest precip was ovr your area temps were still marginal at best. This morning Id imagine you had sleet and or very low ratio snow, ie: 6-8:1 when that very heavy band was skirting the NJ coast

Lessons learned:
1. Don't go bullish with snowfall amounts when the day before temps were in the 60's
2. Don't go bullish with snowfall amounts when the flow is progressive and H5 is not forecasted to close off
3. Always go bullish with snowfall amounts over Long Island because they're the new snow capital of the U.S.

Heavy snow just transitioned back to moderate. It just doesn't want to end, 13+ and counting. Frank called it for this part of the HV but no one else did.

I believe central/southern PA into NJ is where snow amounts were underwhelming. NYC, N&W, and LI did well. A very strange storm.

That back edge looks like it stopped moving. Here under the same light to occasionally mod snow.
