Well so much for Mike's torch!! It's a bitter 16 with a biting windchill. After the few days in 50s plus this just doesn't feel good I hate the back and forth. Oh also we got a ton of rain from the storm other day syonu must been in s dry dpot it was just training here for hours.

I had the blowtorch commencing around the 19th. I have known for quite some time that the 14th-17th would be chilly.

Beat me to it Mike. Looks like an end of week warm-up that may stick around for several days. Not that it will be super warm the whole time but normal to slightly above normal.

1* in Hyde Park. Temp dropped like a rock last night with a clear sky, calm wind, and fresh snow pack.

I agree, there is nothing as beautiful as a frozen landscape the morning after a snowstorm.

While not exactly a torch, highs in the 40’s the next several days is still ten degrees above normal for this time of year so not loving it. If we get a reload in early February though I’ll accept it.

Here are the temp departures for the month of Jan so far from two sites.   Keep in mind the first 2 map departures are in Kelvin. (NOTE: a 1 degree departure in (K) is approx. 1.8*F) It will be interesting to see what the warmth does to the temp anomalies for the Jan when all is said and done.

WOW, Doc, as they say , a picture is worth a thousand words.Add this to the cold period we had in December and it really adds up.After a few mild days in the 40's, I notice after the rain on Tuesday, we go right back down into a normal range.In fact, NWS putting up hazard warning here for sleet and freezing rain Sunday night into Monday morning.In addition to looking at these above, when I opened my gas and electric bill for last month I KNEW it was colder,LOL.

It's already 40 degrees at 9AM. Doesn't look like its going to snow for a long while. Gotta love it.

When I look at the actual departures for January at a bunch of sites today it does seem to coincide fairly close with the maps that NOAA is putting out, at least for the individual sites I looked at.

I looked at 13 different sites in the Northeast this morning pretty much in a circle from Hartford to Albany to Binghamton down to Allentown and Atlantic City and everything in between. Below is what we have so far through January 19.

Central Park 5.6° below normal LaGuardia -6.8° JFK -7.0°, I slip -4.8° Bridgeport -6.0° Newark -5.5° Poughkeepsie -6.0° Albany -4.2° Allentown -4.4° Atlantic City -5.9° Binghamton -5.9° Scranton -5.8° and Hartford -4.4°.

Pretty much if you average them out we would be about 6° below normal Fahrenheit regionwide. With 12 days left in the month we would have to be about 10° above normal for the last 12 days to end up above normal for the month. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

If you trust 10 day+ forecasts we'll run around +5 to +7 the rest of the month. It'll chip away but still below norm.

I just spent 45 minutes online just to wash the car SMH anyway it is a beautiful day outside 52°hopefully we can start changing to a cold and snowy a pattern again

You aint lying! I went to car wash before 10am to beat the crowds, was about 20 min wait then. Had to get rid of that salt.
Cloudy now down to 50 from 54* earlier.

High of 53 here today. Just got in from golfing. 23 holes. Flagsticks still frozen into the cups and snow still in the shady spots from the “bomb cyclone”

Today was very mild. A high of 54. It's currently 39 degrees here. Temperatures are expected to go slightly under freezing before another warm day tomorrow. Only places with snow on the ground are the piles in the parking lots. Can't wait for the return of a wintry pattern.

34* here now.
Felt like 60 today but hit a high of 50.
After the cutter come sthrough highs in mid to upper 30''s and lows in the 20''s for my area. Not a torch by any stretch.
It is going to be tough imo for my area to get to N departure for the month. Down about -7.4 for the month.

Wintry pattern come's back about the 5th ish time frame if all goes as planned.

We had friends over yesterday, sat outside and had a cigar.Still a few inches of snow OTG but going fast.don't think there will be any at all after the cutter goes through.From what I read of the lines at the car wash, I'll pull my van out of the garage and let the rain do it for free,LOL.Close to 10 bucks now for a regular car wash, my first part time jobs in High School I made a buck an hour,LOL.

Looks like it is going to be warm again next weekend. Mike’s prediction for sustained warmth is coming to fruition
