34* with a mix of sleet and light snow flurries. Ground is getting that sleetish sheen. Should keep it nice and cold for when the real snow gets here tomorrow.

Re: March Madness! Spring Snowstorm Observations
Yes, the National Weather Service has over a foot of snow for NYC for tomorrow. HOWEVER, I'm not sold to that solution at this point in time. If this storm were to take place in January, then I would agree with it. However, we are now into Spring and the March sun plays a factor. There are three ways to override this March sun: 1) Have snow come down at night, 2) Have very cold temperatures (i.e. at least a few degrees below freezing), and 3) Have very intense snowfall rates. What models are also picking up on is the mixing issues aloft, which would provide a mix of sleet, especially early on. Now, the snow looks to get cranking at around daybreak, which means the March sun will have an influence on the snowstorm. Also, the temperatures are marginal, which creates issues in accumulation. The three most recent noteworthy snow events we had (3/2, 3/7, and 3/13), it remained above freezing the entire time in the city which is why the snow struggled to accumulate. The snow that fell on the 2nd and 13th did not accumulate and the one on the 7th had 3.2" of snow at Central Park, which accumulated only because of the high snowfall rates. Now, speaking of the high snowfall rates, it looks like we will get some in the area allowing for at least some accumulation. Also, models are now extending the snowstorm through several hours after sunset, which would allow the snow to stick easier.
So the way I see it, I see a mix of snow and sleet around daybreak changing to snow by mid-morning. The steady snow continues for much of the day, with the possible exception of mixing issues mid-late afternoon. As the low moves away by evening, however, it should change back to all snow and will taper off after midnight.
Keep in mind that if you are outside of the urban heat island that is Manhattan, you may see higher snow totals. So I see 3-6" in the city and 6-10" in the suburbs. One last thing to note though: As is usually the case in snowstorms, a narrow band of very heavy snow will likely form somewhere in the area. If this band does form, some portions of the tri-state area could get over a foot of snow.

Note: This is not to denote whether you are right or wrong. Just the overall reaction of one reading this post while super-jacked for this storm.

I find it hysterical that all morning News12 said we were only looking at 3-5” and now I’ve been watching for a half hour and they haven’t given any snow total amounts... chickens...
