On closer inspection, you actually squeezed two sentences into that 1st part. Hmm...we may have to throw down a fanboys here or something.

There we go, now it's 3 thoughts in one sentence. And I still got a few tricks up my sleeve.

Sort of weather banter... Bill Evans is no longer with Channel 7, he bought a radio station in Sag Harbor and will be running it for the foreseeable future. Figured something was up, he hasn't been on for a few weeks.

You boys gonna be in suspension territory, and that would be a shame for next weeks false alarm.  2 thoughts. (I think, I'm tired). No, its 3. 1)Suspension is looming, 2)that would be a shame, and 3) next weeks maps again show a false alarm.

Wow, really sorry to hear this.  I’d been checking his twitter every few days trying to figure out what was up and was kind of concerned about him.  I see he just posted about it a few hours ago.  I will really miss him in the morning.

Wow, Janet, that's interesting.Don't see how he will do as well as he must be doing on Channel 7 with a little radio station in Sag harbor.I'll never forget his statement of 'models are for guidance purposes only".Is that ever true this awful winter season.Brings back memories of the old Channel 7 weather board that got me started on internet weather years ago.I wish him the best of luck.

Here is the current total snow fall for the season through Feb 4th.  As you can see the storm track has been a hair N&W relative to he last 6 seasons to this point. You can see the 1-2 feet zone is really not that far off relatively speaking.  If the 1-2 foot line were down to the coast, 35-50miles maybe, im pretty sure most individuals along the coastal plain would be happy as of Feb 4th with all of Feb and March on the way. I stress most because there are some people who you just cant please and don't seem to want to be happy no matter what. Of course if your an IMBY kind of individual it might as well be a million miles away.  Certainly more than enough reason to continually pout, moan, bitch complain...over and over and over......AND OVER (just in case people didn't know or perhaps forgot how one felt)

Post by Guest Wed Feb 06, 2019 9:09 am

Let me address a few points. If they get deleted so be it (that rhymed. Not as good as CP though)

I have a great sense of humor and can take a lot of zings just as many as I can dish out. No biggie.

Scott’s post this morning is an example. I’m ok with it. Here’s the thing though. I DISAGREE THAT THIS IS A PATTERN CHANGE. IM NOT BITCHING ABOUT  IMBY. IM COMPLAINING THAT PEOPLE KEEP PUSHING A NARRATIVE THAT THINGS ARE GOING AS WE SAID THEY WOULD BUTTHIS STUPID MJO EVENT WAS UNFORSEEN AND SCREWED UP OUR FORECASTS BLAH BLAH BLAH . The MJO is part of the pattern and it being in the warm phases so long this winter is part of the overall pattern. Get over it. THE ATMOSPHERIC DRIVERS MAY HAVE TRENDED MORE FAVORABLY (debatable as well) BUT THE PATTERN HAS REMAINED WARM AND RAIN DRY AND COLD.

To a person all forecasters on here predicted an epic winter. To say otherwise is disingenuous. When I posted the NWS winter outlook back in the fall for an AN temp winter and little snow it was scoffed at.  How’s it look now.  My issue is people come in here and post about upcoming snow chances and pattern changes and optimism and on and on and on but then get it wrong and disappear. (Scott and I have had our disagreements on here but he’s not one of them). A perfect example is Isotherm that Al always posts about who we cannot even understand and Al himself

I joined this forum amazed at Franks accuracy along with a select few others. That has changed. I know weather prediction is incredibly fickle but This forum (which I joined A LONG TIME AGO and have made several thousand posts on) has changed. It has become a place for WISHCASTING.  And to make matters worse now if the mods disagree with what you say they move or delete your posts. Look at my last one that Frank moved here from the LR thread and ask yourself if you disagree? I have had enough. I wish you ALL well and hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Open your eyes people!

I will be deleting my account shortly after I send a few PMs. Ciao

CP. your Othelia post is awesome thank you for making me laugh

Not just on here, even on Facebook, everyone said the same thing. I seen one that had me 175% plus average snowfall which would be 84 inches and up, so far I am at 20 inches from 3 stroms. The biggest of which was in NOVEMBER. Yes, we still have February and March maybe even April, but being realistic here, we haven't had a good winter so far, why change now? Last year, we had record breaking humidity and rainfall, it didn't change all summer, so why change now?

In the town of NJ Strong, where the people traveled the lands to freedom from the discordant wasteland land of the 7ABC’s times were good.  White gold poured from the sky for nearly a decade, but terrible famine rode the streets in 2019.  The professional almanacers predicted glorious powdery white frozen wonderlands laced with ice crystals, but the Gods delivered tepid rain.  Some say it was the consequence of actions of pollsters taken in 2015.  Other experts contend it was the whim of the summer winds.    In the month of January, tempers were ignited, fueled by disappointment, and it is a well-known fact that ignition is never desirable in frozen wonderlands.  Pharaoh-In-Chief Franklin emigrated to Spain and chaos rose from the muddy soil.  Scientists with the name of CP discovered ancient texts and performed risky black magic rituals in the County of Orange with Hedghog #67.  Horrifically, the gardens of sacred land remained bare.

Giants with the name of SYO and SROC (taken possibly from the Chevrolet plants  of years gone by), woke and argued over ancient worthless models, like the EURO, GEFS and the NAM.   They battled over the numerical placement of the mercurial MJO as the residents of Banterland Boulevard cowered.  Accusations of wish casting were hurled and images of inconsolable infants were produced.  Bruce Springsteen warned, “Times are tough and they are just getting tougher, cover me.”  Of course, he was covered in warm rain.

Legend has it that Syo, weary of fighting the good fight, simply packed his cherished belongings and hiked cross country to the redwood forests of Yellowstone Park, never to be seen again.  Others contend that a yeti like figure can be seen wandering the melted tundra’s of Long Island screaming, “Isotherm…isotherm, damn you man.”  Meanwhile, ancient parchment pages of mediocre prediction manuscripts describe a shady figure who settled down to resume the noble activities of a family man, on occasion adopting the moniker "Guest Today".

Maybe time will tell…?

To be continued.

Epilogue
In a brightly lit hospital room at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, protected by the strongest bodyguards, hedgehog #67 rose from the depths of mummification and screamed  spells of unintelligible language.

To be continued…again….

Look dude.  Because you have a great sense of humor, because of our interactions in past years, I felt it was ok to post what I posted this am.  But here's the deal.  You have been complaining...all winter about your back yard.  To say otherwise is plain ridiculous. For some reason you keep harping on this "the pattern hasnt changed" crap.  I dont know what else I can say about this but your wrong.  The pattern did change.  I cant outline it any more clear.  Because of the pattern change Snow fall from Dec 10st through Jan 10 vs Jan 10 through present throughout the NE has increased dramatically over the last 3 weeks. Again just because the coastal plain has not been a part of it doesn't make it not true.  Before the pattern changed it rained despite a storm track on the BM.   I cant remember the exact date of that system in the latter part of Dec but if you'd like Ill go dig up your rant from that.  Before the pattern changed it went from warm to warmer. But no one with the exception of the extreme northern zones were getting snow between Dec10-Jan10 with random rare exceptions.  After that time frame the pattern changed and the snow came into the NE with more consistency...JUST NOT TO YOUR BACK YARD.  Yet you cont to over and over AND OVER let everyone know that you still dont think the pattern changed.. scratch rollseyes  Again I really dont have any more words to get it through to you.

Maybe a visual will help.  Go ahead and Click on the link and watch the snow depth.  Pay particular attention to the the time frames out lined.  Watch it several times if you want. Then look at the total snowfall map for the season I posted.  It really cant be more clear how the pattern became much more conducive for snowfall over the last 2-3 weeks vs the prior month.

Now to the MJO discussion.  Yes Jim your right it is 100% a part of the pattern, and has been probably the single most influential driver this winter; however, the influence of the other factors between the two time frames has been drastically altered.  Specifically the resultant SSWE that took place between late Dec and Early Jan, (warm colors) which ironically was initiated in large part because of the MJO.  While the MJO has continued to apply a neg to the total equation other factors have added more positives such that the snow could make it into the east.  Again JUST NOT DOWN TO THE COAST.  But the fundamental pattern over the entire continent that is North America, and the northern hemisphere as a whole was fundamentally altered by the effects the SSWE had.   ONCE again why you continually feel the need to point out that you dont agree with this is beyond me.  We know how you feel.  Let it go.  It appears to me that your argument is based on what has happened in your back yard both literally and figuratively meaning your back yard includes the coastal plain because the only evidence you state, and correct me if Im wrong, has been same ol same ol...warm rain to cold dry.  To go along with the simplicity in that I would counter the period before the effects of the SSWE took over the NE was mostly warm to warmer with an occasional BN day or two.  The last 2-3 weeks have been the occasional 1-3days period AN with rain followed by longer stretch of N to BN.

Regarding this comment:   I know weather prediction is incredibly fickle but This forum (which I joined A LONG TIME AGO and have made several thousand posts on) has changed. It has become a place for WISHCASTING.

Are you kidding me...I mean seriously are you freaking kidding me? I dont even know what to say.  You clearly dont see the difference between a forecast with someones bias towards a soln and an inflammatory, sarcastic, snide, comment or forecast or a few random words strung together, based on zero analysis and perhaps knowledge of whats really going on that repeats itself over and over for months on end?

The missed or busted forecasts on the MJO's influence and overall influence on the big picture this year was identified by late Dec early JAN.  Ever since then everything that has occurred has happened according to plan based on how ALL the players, neg and pos, totaled.  Odds of a storm increased but the sum of the negatives was too much for the positives to help THIS AREA RIGHT HERE!!!!!! 35-100 miles at most!!!!!!  Shift it S&E and we all rejoice.

I hope you dont  but if your going to knee jerk and delete your account thats your right to do so.

I'm at about 17" for the season and it doesn't do much for me. The periodicity of the snowfalls is probably one of the worst I can remember and even when it does snow it doesn't last too long. Those are two heavily weighted factors that I judge winter on. But to each his own on their judgments...

GFS back to rain in Caribou ME for next week.  That would suck, but must be prepared for it.  Heights pointing to the North Pole.

Hey I hear you heehaw. I dont know what your seasonal avg is but how it is achieved, duration of snow pack, all that stuff is of course in the eye of the beholder. That said My point today is very simply stated this:

Who really cares right? In the grand scheme of life does it really matter? How's your best friend? How's your parents? Hows your husband or wife? I love winter and hope for snow as much as anyone else. If snow doesn't come or if the snow comes and melts too fast for my ideal scenario well that sucks, but Ill get over it. I simply don't understand why people want to cont to beat the same drum on how awful the winter is. Its like NO SHIT Sherlock. Why do people feel the need to constantly over and over again express how negative something is when we all feel the same way. My mother always used to say if you don't have anything positive to say don't say anything at all. Wait for something that you can be positive about and then join the conversation for negative people who complain about the negative things will more often than not achieve negative results. Positive people who think positive about the negative things are the ones who will ultimately succeed.

. Wise words! Its the weather. Its not life or death or things that truly matter. (unless you are outside in the cold, flooding, etc and it becomes dangerous).
