Re: July 2020 Observations and Discussion
I checked on NWS for air temps for July 19 and yesterday. For the 19th, it was 92 degrees here. Yesterday NWS had 88.
On the 19th I had 96. Yesterday, I had 94 but it felt just like a blast furnace sitting on the deck yesterday around 4:30 pm. I thought I was making a glass vase while working at a blast furnace. Exactly like that. I had to hose the deck so we could even walk on it. The plants look great under the sun and in the heat. How leaves can handle not burning up when I was ready to go up in flames, I don't know. Pool water was 87. Bless all of you who have to work in this.

SkiSeadoo Joe, GREAT picture! Last one I saw was the Hale-Bopp comet in 1997.

Very cool. I read it’s about 3 miles across; traveling at 40miles/second or 2400miles/minute or 144,000miles/hour and takes about 6800 years to orbit the sun and contains material from 4.6 billion years ago. Pretty crazy to wrap your brain around what that comets life has entailed. Screaming across vacant space for billions of years...give or take

Dog days of summer for sure. MJO stuck in phase 2 promoting high pressures over Central and Eastern Canada. That would be a very cold pattern and stormy. Also, this phase is favorable for tropical cyclone development.

91* with a heat index of 100*. The heatwave continues. Looks like the potential for a good line of strong thunderstorms around 6 or 7 p.m. this evening.

Skies turning black to my west/southwest with a constant rumble of thunder for the past 15-20 minutes. Cracks of thunder getting louder. Definitely a strong line of storms about to sweep in here.

81* with pouring rain and frequent lightning. Lots of loud thunder continuing. Winds not too bad so far, but it looks wicked out there. Lights flickering - hoping power stays on.

So far dark here but no rain, just thunder. Not sure but this may miss me up here. Friends in Atlantic County say it is a really bad storm there

Re: July 2020 Observations and Discussion
Again wityh the locality of things, it came in like a lion here the winds hit in a strightline and just blew at first at steqady intensity prolly 50mph or so then intermittant big gusts you could hear coming. tons of cloud to ground lightning and cloud to cloud, was one the wildest t-storms i seen in a while, several large trees down in yonkers and i watched a smaller one snap and fall on the lines but it did not knock out power, they still haven't come to cut it, can't a tree on the wires catch fire? I reported it last night. The rain was not crazy it was more the wind and lightning. One tree took out a entire block (unpassable) and obliterated a few cars along with the wires.frank 638 wrote:I’m surprised I didn’t get the torrential wind driven rain with hail all I got was moderate rain still lots of lightning going on stay safe everyone

Second round on tap today, dunzoo your funny when we have moderate risk we get nothing when spc has it slight or marginal we get good storms. No curse of spc yesterday, we usually have the storms go north and south of us. Like a army line that splits then reforms across again once passed. NWS HWO says straightline winds and possibly 1 inch hail, yikes, thats only thing i do not want is big hail. I cannot afford to fix 2 cars.

It was the strongest storm of the season for us so far. I told my family to move from the upstairs and outside rooms after I saw the oak trees flapping around in what looked easily like 45-50 mph gusts. Vivid lightning that struck within a block of my house several times. Lots of trees and some lines down around town.
