That's wild. The idea that this Japan quake near Fukushima could be a aftershock of the Fukushima quake a decade ago is amazing to me.

"It is interesting to note that today's quake occurred in almost the same location as the catastrophic Tohoku earthquake from 11 March 2011. In fact, it is likely a late aftershock."

The fact that Fukushima happened a decade ago tells me how fast time flies.

@Irish In follow up to your discussion I am completely harmless and a very friendly and likeable person by most. Very seldom do I not get along with someone. What I hate is that forums do not correctly portray a persons personality. How can it? You see no emotion or real deep conversation. I have met mugs, Frank, scott, janet, mike and a few others at at least two get togethers and if we ever have one again I gotta meet you, cuz if your a teacher I highly doubt your a mean person and never intentionally said anything to upset me. As for the other guys on the board that known me since I joined in 2013 they just like to pick cuz I used to ask IMBY questions all day long, its not possible to say that at all and I have learned that. I am a novice myself, albeit I could probably give some analysis on the maps but I prefer not to in case I am wrong I do not want to embarrass myself. But maybe by not contributing that kind of stuff and just commenting I am doing more harm to myself than good. I truly like everyone here or I would not be here, plus where else can you get such solid weather info. I wil ltell you TELL YOU I HATE WAITING! That is my main downfall and for instance Mon/Tues we will have no clue where the worst case sets up or as UKMET shows snow! It is all over the place and I hate that. But that is weather and instead of commenting I try to bypass as much as I can thats not necessary. And I think you know more than you think you do. Anyways cheers, and if we ever do meet I will have to try a irish car bomb though I am not very good a chugging drinks lol and milk products are not my friend. Anyways onto tracking this potential crap fest.

My niece lives in Texas so I've been keeping an on the storm down there. Every county in Texas is under a winter storm warning and apparently, they don't have any plows or salt trucks. It's going to be bad enough up here. I can't imagine how it will impact them.

National response is necessary. They need it. Amarillo going down to-10 tonight!!

Seattle got yesterday and minimal plows. Working 24 hrs to clear roads. Said it could take days.

Bayou? Frozen Gator?

My family can pick the weather spots. Out in Albuquerque they had a blizzard warning earlier today. They all went south in pursuit of better weather and somehow the NE weather continues to remind them of what they left.

29* in Brownville Texas and 1.4 million homes wout power!! VA and Oregon as well. Model did a terrible job with the cold air this week and last. For days it was showing negative temps at night and teens for highs. That would have been fun. I accepts what Big Momma wants to bring so can't cry over such I have a deep snowpack of about 16" as I write. Last time I had this was 2015.

Wanted to tell you about my daughter and her family. They are in San Angelo, Texas (western Texas). Schools have been closed since last Wednesday because of the storms.
We get their storms two days after them. Today, they have been advised to be ready for blizzard conditions and maybe up to 12 inches of snow with possible wind chills to 20 below zero. After this another storm is predicted for Tuesday. Everything shuts down there because they are not equipped to handle these storms. My daughter thinks the schools will be closed all this coming week because of the weather they are experiencing.

People in Texas, La adn Arkansas need help - no electricity, no running for some folks in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, sleeping in their cars overnight to stay warm, pipes bursting in homes. Boy did we dodge a bullet by missing what was advertised 2 days ago for the NYC metro region.

The solar cycle since 1900 - lower cycles haves show historically from this data set that the jet stream is more meridional and wavy thus have more extremes/severe weather occurs.
Higher solar cycles usually mean more stable jet structures warmer time frames of weather. Interesting information and derived information and findings overall.

Mugsy, brings back memories of that classic ice storm in 1994.Heavy, thunderstorm intensity rain at 21 degrees. There was 1/2 or more of an inch of ice.I was using a pick axe trying to break it off my walk in Mawah, lol.Anyway, it stayed below 15 degrees for a week.Towns ran out of road salt and schools were closed a week also.

The low pressure area that's re-forming in south Texas right now looks to be pulling in GOM moisture across Corpus Christi and San Antonio in the form of freezing rain.

Gulf effect freezing rain. That's just bizarre.

I've been that site for years. Have to be careful with some information since it's run by NASA and NOAA and they tend to downplay the suns affects on our planet at times.

In actual weather-related news, my temp here in Hopatcong never got above freezing today. I hope that will help with accumulations when this thing gets going tomorrow. I still have over 12 inches on the ground (obviously roads are clear but I haven't seen my lawn since Janurary). Made sure to clear a nice spot to measure.

I don't anticipate this being a major event, but I think we would all benefit from taking a step back and remember where we were at this time last year. This event would have been looked at as a gift from the snow gods themselves.....

I have a 15 pack of Blue Point "The IPA" (shout out to my LI folks on here!!) and a little Jameson in case I need to refuel my snow removal equipment (that's me, by the way Twisted Evil )

Let it snow!

Love it.  If you can find it try their "Hoptical Illusion" Also a pretty good IPA

I'm a fan of their toasted lager

Toatsed Lager is really good. Their Octoberfest is great also. Obviously seasonal though. Overall a pretty decent brewing co

I love the concept of the 15 pack as well. I always feel like I'm getting 3 beers for free (even if that's not technically true).

Founders also does these-- All Day IPA and Centennial IPA come to mind. They also just released a new one called Moon Rambler that I enjoy.

Let me tell you, those extra 3 came in handy during the blizzard we got at the beginning of the month....

Ive had the All Day IPA, but not the Centennial. Going to have to give it a try. If you want to try a really good set of beers give Sweetwater Brewing company a try. Their 420 IPA is probably my running favorite IPA. But they have several really good ones.

Got this through a friend and very interesting by a 40 year plus scientist

by Professor David Dilley

Meteorologist - Climatologist - PaleoClimatologist

Global Weather Oscillations

Ocala - Tampa

GlobalWeatherOscillations.com

Time for Media and IPCC to Wake Up on Climate Change

For about a decade and especially during the past five years, the media has been extorting the truth by blaming most weather events on human induced climate change. Every flood, strong hurricane, tornado, high tides, and even cold temperatures - have all been blamed on human induced global warming as the cause.

Fact is - weather events are cyclical, and we have floods and hurricanes all the time – and their severity occur in cycles. Back in 2019. Venice Spain had two thirds of their city streets underwater, and of course it was blamed on global warming. Fact is - a powerful storm occurring in conjunction with a cyclically strong full moon caused the flooding – this occurs often with strong lunar tides that cycle over time. This particular flood was very similar to their flood in 1966 that occurred during a strong lunar event - and it was in a cold weather period in our history. Media - please dig out your history books and learn. These events have occurred before and will again – this is proven science.

In 2019 - an early cold snap froze crops and buried fields in snow across the upper mid-west of the United States and some Canadian provinces. This resulted in crop losses for many farmers not seen in over 60 years. In addition - much of Europe experienced one of the worst winters in 25 to 60 years. And how did the media respond to this? Once again - the media and some savory science and climate groups said – it was caused by human induced climate change (global warming).

And now during the 2021 winter, deniers of natural climate cycles (climate change global warming alarmists) – are shocked as a record-breaking cold Arctic Vortex outbreak griped the United States in Mid-February 2021. It was the Coldest Arctic blast in over 30 years for this region, and some snowfall totals broke records not seen since the late 1800s. And this is not a Fluke - parts of Europe, Asia other regions around the world have likewise experienced similar weather in 2021. And alas – not a word from the global warming alarmists or media in an attempt to tie the increasing colder temperatures during the past couple winters to global warming.

Could this be the beginning of what is to come? Earth has had 6 global warming cycles during the past 1,200 years. They are cyclical and recur like clockwork approximately every 230-years, and last about 75 to 85 years. The warm cycles are then followed by a long-term dangerous global cooling cycle. The current global warming cycle is on its 85th year and beginning to gasp for breath. Is the current global warming cycle now transitioning to the next 85-year very dangerous Global Cooling Cycle? They are cyclical and recur like clockwork.

We should all ask ourselves - Is it time for the Media to Wake Up and print the truth concerning the lies and extortion of the public by agenda seeking organizations? And, is it possible that the organizations actually know that a major Global Cooling Cycle is about to set in - and this is why they are pushing hard and quick for what they want before the public catches on?

Please do your homework Media - learn the truth about natural climate cycles - do not try to alter natural cycles - unless you want to kill the earth!

About ready to turn in here so I can get up at the crack of dawn and start now tracking! In the meantime I just put up the cholent for tomorrow. With a thousand users, I figure many of you know what cholent is, but for those that don't...

Cholent (pronounced 'CHILL-ent') is basically Jewish beef stew prepared for lunch on Saturday afternoon, as part of the weekly Shabbat customs of strict Jewish faith. Jewish law prohibits any cooking from Friday night at sundown to Saturday at sundown, so the Cholent is put up before Shabbat starts on Friday afternoon/evening and cooks all night long. It's a really wonderful smell to wake up to on a lazy Saturday morning or a lazy snow day!

About 2 pounds of Vegetables (Potatoes/Onion/Carrot/Celery with salt pepper garlic and a touch of paprika)

Now, 1 cup of barley and 3 cups of water.

Don't be scared, blast with ketchup!!

Now, lay that beautiful meat on there. I went for a full chuck roast, but short ribs (crosscut into flanken) are more traditional.

And last, move over there Chuckie!! Make way for the kishka! Kishka is just stuffing, as you can see from the ingredients. Quite tasty though!

Kishka and for that matter cholent can be found at anyone of these neighboring towns:

Monsey, NY
Brooklyn, NY
Long Branch/Deal, NJ
Lakewood, NJ
Cherry Hill, NJ

In my Walmart, a very limited supply of kosher meat is on the shelf but there is kishka. After unwrapping it, is it cooked separately in the oven or is is whole in the crock? It sounds delicious. I’m going to try it

I grew up cooking Kishka whole or sliced in the oven and then serving with oven roasted chicken. Yummy!!

This way, you leave it in the crock from the start and after 8-10 hours it’s all done cooking so just kind of either rip it apart in the crock or carefully extricated it and slice. There are two kinds of kishka, meat kosher (Glatt) and parve kosher. Both are good, but the meat one is a bit more savory if you are more carnivorous and the parve one is meat free if you are more herbivorous. Well, it’s beef stew so omnivorous. Chances are local Walmart has one or the other and not both. But at least now you can make an informed choice! lol

And my cholent is looking much better than my sleet storm. Rat a tat says the sleet storm...
