August 2021 Observations and Discussions

70* and Cloudy. Plenty of scattered showers about this afternoon. Gloomy, cool start to August.

Temps probably stay at or just below normal this week, before maybe getting hotter toward the weekend/early next week.

Not directly weather-related, but this is the time of year when I always first start to notice that the days are getting shorter and the sun is setting earlier (even though that technically starts happening in early July, but at first it is subtle and not much to note). Sunset tonight at 8:14, and by the end of this month it will be at 7:34.

Morning dew on the lawn these last two mornings = summer fading. My dad's friend would always say, You know when summer is ending - dew on the grass!
Buddy in Franklin, NY temp yesterday morning 45*, guy I taught and coached and is a pro met lives in Saranac Lake had a low .......39* - made a fire in his wood burning stove to get the chill out of his home -ITS JULY 31ST for heaven sake!

This is a huge temp difference for UHI city. The night time temps are usually and have been warmer than normal and daytime highs are lower than normal. 1.5* is big IMO for coolness.

Nice day today. Warmer tomorrow. Looks like we will get some of that heat after all in the coming days. I had to stop the car and look into a swamp area because I saw some trees' leaves starting to turn at the top. Some yellow, some red. At my house, I see the same at the top of trees. It is subtle but the change is there. 48 days until fall.

Boring weather. Even though I love the fall and winter and can not wait..Summer is flying by..school a month away.. Not ready for the chaos. currently a beastly 87* eww.. Hope everyone is enjoying.

One of the most incredible CTG lightning shows I have ever seen right now WOW

Wow what a series of storms. Torrential rains, heavy winds and amazing lightening that was nonstop for about an hour. House lit up like a light bright board.

Saw on the news..the crazy weather you all had..we just had a lot of lightning. No rain..but the show was amazing..

Three hours of heavy rain from 2-5 pm then steady for one hr more. Today I am in Montrose. 97 degrees here!

Hot as heck here, looks like decent little line of storms headed along NJ NY border looks like if it holds which it should I may see another good one, there are warnings up for this storm. 95 here not sure what heat index is. Saw almost no rain from the storm last night but like a hour plus of lightning and for a while there were just CTG everywhere. Dumb question for someone who has been a weather nerd for years but is it dangerous to stand near or even up against the windows to watch lightning? I rememeber hearing lightning can travel through windows.

We had a crazy gust front around 5pm or so, I was about to go outside to look at the sky etc b4 it hit but it was moving 55mph and as i went to the door it went from 0-60mph in a spolit second trees bending over it was 2 minutes of nuts. A hge tree came down on my street took wires and heaviliy damaged a car. All the wires were live too. Many roads were closed there was also a accident two cars collided they got jarred as it hit. and day 3 of storms tomorrow. Love the excitement. Feel bad for the car but it will get fixed or paid.

I imagine that must be so cool seeing the lightning etc from that high up fully clear view. U are just across the river from me so this timing would be about right. Oh larchmont NY per NWS had 60kt gusts!! I would say our straight line winds as it just blew steady for a minute or two. Wasn't gusts, probably 50-60 mph my guess the fact it uprooted trees and we have been pretty dry. Took a lot tops of trees off too.

hit 94* Thursday, heat index of 109* unreal. I stayed in all day, but today I'm going down the shore for 2 weeks. Shlepping luggage and house supplies in the heat today is going to be brutal! Stay cool everyone!

Sat outside, in the direct sunlight, for three hours at a baseball game yesterday, during the hottest part of the day with a temp of 98* with a heat index well over 100*. That is the closest I think I've come to spontaneously combusting.

Things cool off peeeps Stating Sunday with highs in the mid 80 range and low 80's to maybe 80 all of next week with rain/tstorm possibilities.
Whew was it hot these last 3 days!!

Woke up at 7 this morning to a pouring rain that lasted for about 1.5 hrs.

My 13 year old called yesterday's humidity warm steam. For the past three days, the slider doors and windows early in the morning were coated with water.

Today was nice. A bit muggy still but I'll take it Got up to 83.

Damian that's for a Full Steer it's up to $3.80? Jeez inflation shrinkflation decimation to the spending power of money!!

Much nicer this morning, less humidity and 71*!

I see the humidity is coming back this upcoming week. Today is a beautiful 59% humidity and 70 degrees. And perhaps a rainy week.
