It's a long season,Frank, barely started. The Yanks are a powerhouse club. They have scored 14 runs in the two games against the Mets. You guys have the same problem with middle relief we have although with CC out, the starting pitching is weak. Was not impressed with Nuno.
Maybe you guys need a trade for middle relief or a starter to shore up the pitching. Some tough NL teams out there, as you saw with Milwaukee.Wow, that would be a matchup for the World Series, Milwaukee vs the Yanks. That happened in 1957 and 1958, the Braves won in '57 and the Yanks in '58.Classic baseball history in those towns.

Yanks always make it up with power, the pitching will be back, it's early.
What was up with Wheeler last night? He looked completely lost.

Not a great night for Wheeler, don't know what's up with the starters, they are getting to 115 pitches in just 5 innings.....they will wear out the bullpen in no time.......

He's been erratic his last few starts.Hope the pitching coaches don't make another Pelfry out of him.We saw how that worked out, a guy with "oh such promise" completely busting out.
Colon is showing his age now.Getting tatooed regularly.Gonna need this kid Montero, Syndegaard or even Mejia to replace Colon before he loses 15 games.

LOL. and the bullpen is already shaky.Have to give them credit against the Yanks, though. They have come through when the starters have been very poor.

Looking forward to seeing Montero. Talk about throwing him to the wolves, jeez. Well pitching against the Yankees separates the men from the boys.

Re: 2014 Mets
I picked up Montero on my fantasy league. Not going to start him though. I want to scout him a bit tonight first. Hopefully with Tanaka going he can give us a quality start.

Re: 2014 Mets
I thought Montero pitched very well all things considered. Not surprised that the Mets couldn't hit Tanaka.
Yeah, Gee hurt, so many injuries to pitchers league wide this season.

Montero.....meh. Tanaka....magnificent.Watching last night stunk as a Mets Fan, but I'm glad to have seen Tanaka. He's the real McCoy, you bet! If the Yanks can get healthy around him, they are playoff bound.Gary Cohen mentioned Tanaka has 34 staright wins.Mind bogglingly amazing! Great pick up by Cashman. That took guts laying out 150 mil over 7 years for a gamble. That took guts.Wish our GM had b_ls like Cashman.
Got to be a letdown for Mets hitters last night back in the rightfield jungle of Citi Field that eats up homers.Kieth Hernandez was spot on when saying you've got to become a line drive hitter there and forget about the Jacks.

They have this rookie kid pitching tonight in Gee's place.Yanks have a rookie pitcher as well. This could be fun tonight.Luckily we are a little deeper in starting than the Yanks.Only dependable starter they have is Tanaka.

Re: 2014 Mets
Absolutely disgusting, horrible hitting by the Mets last night. As I said in an earlier post in this thread, we were lucky to split with the Yankees in this series. We are something like 3 and 11 with 4 shutouts against us in this last run.The Captain, david Wright, struck out three times and grounded weakly with men on first and third.Years ago, in the 60's way before this "oh so respectful of people's sensitivities" era, the Daily News would add a Hero and Goat picture on important games.Well, that Yankee middle reliever who struck out 6 straight Mets would be the hero and Wright the Goat for blowing a DP and his crap hitting. This rookie kid de Graw comes up from the minors and pitches a one run gem against a killer lineup and these clowns on the Mets strike out 14 times.
Something very wrong with this team, lack of consistent clutch hitting.Basement here we come with the management we have.

Boy the Wilpons really wanted a pitcher's park in Citi Field, they got what they wished for.
DeGrom pitched 7 terrific innings.

Nofo,I liked de Grom better than Montero, but they both held the Yanks to only 4 runs. They did their jobs and a better hitting club would have won last night's game.Tanaka is different, I don't think any team can beat him right now.

Re: 2014 Mets
Also wanted to mention that a nice reception was given to Yankee future Hall of Famer and classy gentleman Derek Jeter.Sad to see him go as he is a baseball institution, but he murdered us through the years.Chipper Jones was the same.At least these guys won't chop us to pieces anymore,LOL!
Amazing Derek Jeter spent his whole career as a Yankee.Don't see that much at all these days with all the trading going on.The man will be a success at anything he does because he has a work ethic from the old days.If his team gets healthy, maybe Derek will have a shot at a playoff- World seris bid.
In a roundabout way, Derek Jeter helped me out as he was the spokesman for Ford Motors for a while and I believe he helped drive the price of Ford stock up which I traded for a profit. Thanks, Derek, from old Docstox, and the best of luck to you in your post baseball career(s).

Re: 2014 Mets
Now THAT'S what I'm hoping to see! Colon pitching like a gem, incredible defensive play and hitting by Lagares, clutch hitting by the new kid Campbell, and a great move by Collins bringing in Mejia to close.Like Mejia so far, he could be great as a closer. As Dunz said, Atlanta has been choking as well, we are'nt that far back.

If I was going to build a stadium for my ballclub, I would make it hitter friendly by default.
Crowds like to see hitting better, and even if you occasionally put a bad team out there, it's more fun to watch the team lose 9-7 than 3-1.

Not much of a debate from my perspective. I heard the Wilpons designed the park around Reyes so he could get in the park home runs. How did that work out?
Drew back to the Sox for $10mil. We'll have to settle with Tejada batting .180 and making countless errors.

Well, they are in the basement now, and it's not going to get better with no pitching....

Wouldn't worry about the starting pitching. Montero and DeGrom are young yet. Once Gee gets back, that should fill the void in. They need to find some power, like we've been preaching since November.

Right, Nofo, that worked out just peachy keen designing Citi with those dimensions.
They are betting on Tejada like they did on Pelfry and Ike Davis.

All the great starting pitching won't matter without bats to back them up. Earth to Alderson........

I've been watching baseball 54 years and I can say that there is something fundamentally wrong with this team. The manager, coaches, GM and owners are just not clicking together properly to produce a winning team.We are now in the basement as I predicted last week. They can't hit.Last night, two innings with bases loaded and one out and no runs scored.Inexcusable and the hitting coach HAS GOT TO GO!!!!! Terrible fundamental errors being made on the basepaths and Danny Murphy is afraid of going ass over teakettle and throwing badly eliminating possible double play balls.
I'm a diehard fan and will stick it out, but this franchise will sink into the ground as fair weather fans desert the ship in droves.Alderson, the manager and the coaches better come up with something fast to right the ship.
