Re: March Obs & Discussions
Excellent information above from heehaw and Doc.Seems like those ocean temps have wreaked havoc on snow totals in our area except for a few nino years. As always, CNE and NNE do well.Looking at the chart from 1880 to 2022, it seems like that AMO oscillates like an AC-DC electric current sine wave and looks like we are getting closer to the zero line.Maybe a great 20 year period will begin once there is a crossover.
Perhaps CP can arrange for a massive air drop of ice cubes into the ocean off the SE coast this season to hasten this downtrend of the AMO.

Sroc great insight w.r.t. to AMO/SST and I agree this isn't going to unwind itself in the next few years. Past data is becoming less relevant. I go back to February 2020 when I said you'd never see so many EC stations report no measurable snowfall in February again and now in January 2023 same thing only warmer temperatures.
I see the foreseeable future as warming continuing and analogs that used to be relevant aren't anymore. I look no further than the NAM state in December as proof of that. I also see more extreme type of snowstorms occurring with the AN SST a la January 2016, however, there's a point when the base state warms so much that what used to be bread and butter setups don't work anymore and that affects the snowfall mean, periodicity of snow and snow depth longevity.
I agree with you the scale will tip back, but the question is when and how extreme are we going to get before that? I think we have some more of what we just went through to get to end of the tunnel unfortunately. And, I'm not saying we won't snow anymore, but don't be surprised if we see 2022/23 repeat itself in the near term with an even more extreme version if that's possible.

Re: March Obs & Discussions
So heehaw NYC would measure snowfall in the negatives? LOL, hey this is bizarre as it is lets get more bizarre, so little snow that its measured backwards. Today was a awful set back from yesterday and Fridays beautiful weather, hoping it can begin to warn up for good. Seeing no posts in LR in nearly a week tells me that there's no more threats to be disappointed by. Any idea of what hurricane season or spring severe weather might look like around these parts? Is severe storms something that can be predicted by trends and long range forecasts? Or is it kind of a last second thing?

Re: March Obs & Discussions
Couldn't help but laugh to myself this morning. Enjoying some of these 60* days and saying, "well, after a crappy winter, at least I can start enjoying some nice outdoor weather." Then I look at the ten day forecast and see Temps in the 40s almost all of next week. As always happens this time of year: no longer cold enough to snow, but just cold enough to make it unpleasant outside.

Mom, you are talking about Mississippi, right? Yes, there, and in Southern California with the tornado. We are seeing crazy things.
Right now, 34. I woke up to a sugar sprinkle of virga on the deck. Raining steady. Raw out. Feels icy out as in reaching one's bones. A good day for a cup of hot tea and some fig newtons

Wish everyone peace and good fortunes as I'm signing off for the season. Albeit, this was an extreme case of futility, always enjoy sharing knowledge, memories and insights with you all on this board. Things will be better next year I'm fairly certain for the snow lovers among us.

Cloudy, chilly, rainy. In a word, unpleasant. At least we do not have the severe weather they have experienced down south and out west.

Re: March Obs & Discussions
On my way home from Florida, and experienced the heat records going on there this past week. Funny, when I was down there in January they were having a rare cold snap all the way down to SW Florida. Am glad to be heading home to more moderate temps, although I could do without the rain. Seeing the sun everyday for the past week was glorious!

Saw a beautiful rainbow on the way home from work as the rain moved east and the sun emerged.

This is beyond, wow, 17 min I couldn't watch 5 sec. I hope people got out. I have not been paying attention to the weather much going through a audit at work. What was this a EF-6? (yes I know highest is a 5).

45* and Partly Sunny. Looking at some rain overnight and into tomorrow. Possibly a round of Thunderstorms tomorrow? Definitely looking very windy tomorrow afternoon and evening regardless.

Does anyone know what tonight and tomorrows storm is going to entail? Accuwx is saying winds of 50-60 mph, svr t-storms and heavy rain but NWS shows none of this.

Showers this evening and overnight as the warm air moves in. Thunderstorms possible tomorrow as the cold front approaches, especially in the afternoon/evening I’d bet. There will definitely be very gusty winds as the chillier air mass moves out the warm air late tomorrow into Sunday (Sunday will be 20 degrees colder than Saturday). Below is the NWS outlook:jmanley32 wrote:Does anyone know what tonight and tomorrows storm is going to entail? So not a major long duration wind or rain event. But likely not a outdoors day, that stinks since it will be so warm.billg315 wrote:Showers this evening and overnight as the warm air moves in.
