Re: August 2013 Observation & Discussions Thread
Some showers, moderate at times, can be expected along the Jersey Shore and southern NJ late tonight into parts of the morning hours tomorrow. But I do not think it will be a washout. Some moisture will try to stream up the coast, but I think the bulk of it remains offshore.

Re: August 2013 Observation & Discussions Thread
VERY boring weather the next two weeks. Humid and warm the next two days, followed by a nice cool down into the 70's over the weekend with less humidity.
Re: August 2013 Observation & Discussions Thread
I can take boring until I get back from vaca...last time we were down here we had to evacuate for Irene...

The NAM and HRRR want to bring some thunderstorms into the area tomorrow out ahead of the front tomorrow..
The front itself is weak, and carries only isolated thunderstorms along it......very exciting if you ask me......lol

Re: August 2013 Observation & Discussions Thread
The CFS has been fantastic the last couple months forecasting. Its been really locked in the last couple weeks of having a just below average September. It's forecasting a weak to moderately +PNA which explains the ridging in the west with the large strong trough situated in the east for parts of the month, thus keeping the Bermuda High off shore. With the MJO going into phase 1 and 2, it seems mostly likely the cool, trough filled boring weather with intermixed average to just above average days will continue....

Radar estimates are between 1 and 4 inches in north jersey. The hi -res models did a good job with the convection today.

The storms always seem to get the starch knocked out of them by the time they reach out here, I'll check my gauge tonight but don't believe we received more than 2/10" thus far.

More intense convection has formed on the southern end of the energy. The convection Has a slow moving vort of energy so all places east of the convection has a chance to pick up a inch plus, as long as the convection keeps the intense DBZ.

Re: August 2013 Observation & Discussions Thread
That's due To the heavy marine layer in the LI atmosphere. It keeps instability low and the thermodynamics for the convection low also. Thus, not allowing most thunderstorms to retain strength, unless they develops along the sea breeze front during warm days.nofoboater wrote:The storms always seem to get the starch knocked out of them by the time they reach out here, I'll check my gauge tonight but don't believe we received more than 2/10" thus far.

Current radar suggests more storms later this evening, but isolated.

Janet, Just posted on the other board that it his us in Belmar at like 4:30 to about 6AM - crazy but we did not get much rain at all - just a wet ground - kind of like what has happened up North here but just the opposite with you and this summer. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.Dunnzoo wrote:Wow, what a difference a day makes....a rogue thunderstorm rolled in just over Seaside at about 4:45 this morning and boy are we getting blown around this morning! 70* winds from the NNE@15 gusting @ 24.
