At this early Juncture, encouraging signs as we creep closer to winter Mugs. A weak Modoki Nino would be great for us. Now if we can finally get a -NAO to coincide which for the most part has alluded us for several winter seasons, look out!

It's a funny thing, Mugsy.I read this early today then went out doing some chores around town up here in Monroe NY and I see the pleasant harbinger of over 10 trees displaying some leafs with color.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
What is more accurate, digital or analog?
I was looking at winter forecasts on YouTube and predictions are all over the place. The presentations look pretty but who among them has access to digital forecasting resources and of course it is still too early to know what will be what.
There is no reading of tea leaves in a digital age but if I understand modeling, folks have used analog to explain and predict based on the past while digital is trying to predict based on how much sea ice builds up when or retreats when, and on ocean temps: blobs, ninos, ninas, nadas, plus atmospherics. If I am understanding all this, global warming is distancing today's weather from past weather so weather forecasting is up for grabs. Yes, a few days to a week and we have the cat in the bag but nowadays, long-term weather forecasting seems to be fiction with no way to predict based on past data and short-term is the best term for forecasting. So insurers, farmers, emergency management folks, regular folks, you and me, we are just along for the ride. Or am I wrong? Are all the millions of dollars spend on supercomputers, trained staff, and all aficionados moving weather forecasting somewhere "better" as in more accuracy? I'm asking because I'm a customer.

Yet ANOTHER morning with temps in the 50,s. 54.5 today. We have not experienced a 7 to 10 day hot spell with temps each day in the high 90's or even 100 and temps at nite not getting below 80.Plenty of rain, grass staying green up to this point.Don't see much chance of that hot spell now, days getting shorter as we approach the mid August area. Before you know it, Labor Day will be here with Fall just around the corner.

And they never ever closed school neither. So what does a cool Aug mean in atmospherics and fall? Or winter? Anyone remember such a cool fall?

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
Hey all, sorry I have been so distant. Been quite busy interning at Mazars USA LLP in NYC this summer as a tax accountant, but hope to have a little more time to spend on the weather going forward. I have just accepted my offer with PwC in their audit practice for next Summer 2018 as an intern, as I will be completing my MS in accounting and taking my CPA exam, which will end me up in a full time position at PwC in the Summer of 2019.
Of course I am always following the weather, albeit quite boring this Summer, but I'm always lurking! Looking forward to hopefully some active tropics as we head towards September! I will be going back to Binghamton for my last undergrad semester Aug 20th, but I only have 3 classes on Tues/Thurs, so plenty of time to track weather! I hope to be able to attend a meetup with you guys soon!
Happy tracking!

Sorry I've been MIA. I've been in Italy since the 14th. I return the 29th. Of course rain is in the forecast. Anyway, heard about Harvey and the devastation it's bringing to Texas. I am very out of the loop but I pray the death toll is nowhere close to Katrina.

track 17 I'm responding to your post from the tropical page. what's really sad, irresponsible and down right insane is that people want what is happening in texas to happen in their backyard!!! and don't give me the ol you wish for 2" feet of snow crap. we as a society can handle almost any amount of snow. what we can't handle is what is going on in texas now or sandy or katrina....
