Temps stayed in the 20s here all day. A mix of sleet and freezing rain started at 2:30 and then mixed with light snow that ended around 5:30 pm. We had a slick coating. It was like a mix of snow and ice coating.

Nothing more than a coating of snow.It was better characterized as a snow shower lasting maybe 1/2 hour.

that's a boss that Cates about their employees. My wife had go in Thursday and made her leave at 1230 yes during height of it. The CEO as I've said a million times is a complete careless person. Of course he doesn't go in.weatherwatchermom wrote:Frank_Wx wrote:Freezing rain and snow is working through PA now. Getting into western NJ. Hearing roads are icing over fast. Hopefully not until after midnight. We have to at least get to 14 days in a row below freezing.

I was hoping it would be 14 days in a row 30 or below. Now the best we can hope for is 14 days in a row below freezing.

And the 11:51 PM temp is 31 degrees. Also, the 24-hour max was just listed as 31 degrees.

About 1/2 of sleet, ZR, and snow here, took a nap while it was falling. But that's what I'm assuming it was, mostly sleet. Just a nuisance event. Getting amped for some warmer weather, this deep freeze was oppressive.

21.6° this morning. I agree with Janet after the last two weeks it feels absolutely springlike out.
If you're serious about measuring snow log yesterday's totals if they are a 10th of an inch or more. We received 0.3 inches yesterday upping the seasonal total to 19.9 inches, still less than half the normal seasonal but a few inches above normal for this point in the season. Any areas along the coast and in the city are already over half and places along the Jersey shore have already reached their seasonal averages, and in some cases exceeded them.

Jman..so sorry to hear about your wife's boss...we have all worked for people like this at one time or another in our life time....(I am fortunate..I am a stay at home mom...but my last job was like that right before our son was born)...my husband works for an up and coming fast growing company in NJ..left the city after 18 years(now only has a 12 minute commute!!)...they are hip and young..believe it or not he is one of the older employee's and we are not old...lol. 90 percent Millennials! Here's was my motto before I left the work field and my husbands "if you treat the people who work for you well, then they work for you well" Hopefully in the future your wife will find that right employer to work for that treats their employee's "Well"

I think we may have some serious flooding issues with all this snow here on Friday with the rain and temps getting into the 60s

Amazing how we get conditioned to temperatures. If it was 42 degrees in late October/early November I’d be thinking “winter is here, it’s cold.” Today it felt like Spring. I was ready for pitchers and catchers to report.

Yep, walking outside on break/ w coworkers and its in the low 20s, feels relatively cool, but not cold. Able to do it with just a sweater, in Sept/Oct the 40s felt worse.

The urban heat Island effect rearing it’s ugly head more than usual this morning. As I’ve said many times and most already know calm winds snow cover and clear skies work great for radiational cooling in the suburbs but the calm winds potion of that equation does not work well in NYC and other UHI.
11 degrees for the low here and 45 geographical miles away NYC at 31. Many readings in the teens in surrounding areas this morning.

cp I am less than 10 miles from Manhattan my low was 18*. 3 miles away in the Bronx temps were probably +5 or more from my location. the UHI's are not a good representation of our climate in the greater nyc area. there where many times when it is snowing and I have 3-4" of snow at home and when my wife gets to her job in midtown and not one flake has stuck to the ground. of all the reporting stations lga is the worst by far!! they probably keep their thermometer near a vent that blows hot air out of the building. lga should be removed from nyc climate obs.CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:The urban heat Island effect rearing it’s ugly head more than usual this morning.
