Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
This article has some of the updated final rain totals. Some are reminiscent of tropical storm rains we've gotten here. Also a good photo of the tornado in Union County:

What's most impressive about those 3-5" rainfall totals is that its not from a protracted nor'easter or a tropical system working up the coast where you can get heavy rain for a full day. Most of these totals fell in just a little over 4 hours.

Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
I'm across the pond in Ireland and everyday has been in the low to mid 60s and......rain in some form. Nightime in the 50* range.
Don't know how folks do it here. Beautiful and fun island.
Seeing this week coming up shall be very comfortable back home which is great for ya'll. LR looks like summer will return the latter part of August through Midish September. Need the positives over the Greenlandish region to drop a bit more SE to push back on the SE ridge.
If we have this for winter with the boiling waters in the GOA and off the British Columbia coast then we'd be setting ourselves up for some winter fun!! One can hope.
Ta ta for now.

Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
Yeah, the sunset is now officially before 8 p.m. in most of the state. Will be about 7:30 p.m. by the end of the month. Fall is fast approaching. If the GFS is to be believed, we could have our first taste of real Fall weather the weekend after this with high temps in the 70s around Aug 23-25 and low temps in the upper 40s/low 50s. We'll see if that holds as we get closer.

Definitely was nice to get the windows open this weekend and enjoy some fresh air in the house for a change. Hopefully it helps keep the electric bill in check a bit too, because my AC has been running a lot up until this past weekend.

No worries weathermom the spc dropped the severe threat way south to south Jersey down to dc and further south. If we see anything it'll be some showers. The nam is dead wrong. I'm surprised the spc moved the threat area so far south guess they kinda made a oppsie there.

Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
Yeah Flash Flood Watch dropped for North Jersey. Most of the short range modeling suggests the axis of heaviest rain showers/storms will be from I-195 south. That said, predicting the exact location of convective thunderstorm activity in the summer is not always a precise science so I'd still keep an eye on the radar this afternoon and evening in North Jersey.

Welp, our first big bust of the Summer! ;-) I saw the SPC dramatically shift their severe threat south before I went to bed late last night but man, what huge shifts within 12-24 hrs of an "event" as today wore on.

Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
can anyone explain why a certain weatherman on ch 11 in the a.m relies more on the NAM model than the euro or gfs model, and 60% all the time his forecast is wrong especially in the winter

Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
Looks like a return to some summer heat the next few days, but the modeling still shows a little Fall preview for next weekend. Maybe some highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. If that forecast holds, should make for a nice final weekend of August after the mini "heat wave" the next few days.

Re: August 2019 Observations and discussion
My goodness. Sometime during last night-after 10 pm and before 5 am there was a heavy rain. I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw the pool almost overflowing. It filled up my tractor cart which was empty and dry last night. How do I know this? I was tossing my beer cans into it. I was making rather merry and I paid for it this morning. But what a downpour. My wife said it was about a half hr and torrential, so loud it woke her up but she did not look at the clock. Anyone else get that heavy rain last night?

Yes, we got it here some time between 11 pm and midnight. Absolutely torrential rain for about half an hour.dkodgis wrote:My goodness. Edit: Haha, I just now see your post was about Friday night. We got the rain last night (Saturday).
