Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
Snowing moderately. A solid 2" otg. I take! 3.25" for December so far which is more than half average snow fall for me. Active subtropical jet leads me to believe more chances will come!

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
Roads are completely covered. Went from half inch or so to almost 2 in very short order. Very impressive rates. Ratio is high as my temp went from 34 to 30 quickly

2.4 new inches bringing the months total to 14.4 inches. Pleasantly surprised.
More importantly there's been snow covered ground every day in December. 11 days and counting.

The merest dusting up here. 25 this morning. Did not stick on roads. If I went out and sneezed on the deck, what little that fell would blow away.

Now that it's lighter out it's pretty sad amazing Al you have a inch on the ground or grassy surfaces that is. Some spots are bare here. I'd say total a half inch like last time. I'll try to get a true measurement when I go out. I'll likely have to do it on a car . the trees are pretty I'll give it that.

I just stated in my text..how wonderful this is..yes do we all want a Roidzilla..absolutely..but the fact that snow stayed on the ground down by the coast for several days from the last storm and to have a coating and flakes flying this morning and it is Dec...is AMAZING in my opinion...NOW to get a snow storm for MUGS' birthday would be the the cherry on the sundae!!!

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
Measured about 2.5 inches here in Hopatcong NJ before I head in to work. Puts me over a foot already on the year. I will gladly accept that given that it's only December 11th.
Winter hasn't even 'officially' started yet. Expectations should be managed accordingly. Any snow is good snow this early!

That second band is coming through snowing pretty good. Well at least got my delay needed that extra sleep. Not sticking really it's only 34 but colder surfaces it's still sticking to a bit. Even grass it's not sticking a lot.

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
34* light snow, in a lull right now, hoping for one more push to keep the mood flakes flyin till 11 am or so. Got about an inch so far, maybe closed to 2" on the car.
"Any snow is good snow!" OK, works for me ha ha! So far about what I expected, a nice little early season 'skirmish', hopefully setting the stage for the bigger battles to come...
Speaking of which, I'm actually more interested at this point to see what Hee Haw had to say in the LR thread...lol

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
Nice little storm folks, some nice surprises as Western Jersey flipped a lot sooner than modeled. Beautiful wintry scene again
Warm ground hurt the accumulation factor again but if this were January or early Feb the air would have been a few more degrees colder since the source region is colder it woudl have been even whiter!!!
I ma hoping for my bday storm some blocking in the Greenland region would be very helpful so we shall see.
Just ended here about 15 minutes ago.

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
No additional accumulation from the last band that went through.
Final tally 2.4 inches, now at 14.4 for the month.
No complaints here, my ideal December so far. Well I could have done without the rain Monday and Tuesday which washed away the majority of the snow from the beginning of month but that's nitpicking.

1.5 inches in yonkers on cars. More at work in white plains maybe 2 to 3. Trees very pretty I'll say listening to some transiberian orchestra on my way to work and look at the snow made me happy. Here's to hoping for a big one on mugs birthday!!

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
Doc its WONDERFUL!! to have snow OTG this time, or any time of the year.
Hey Mom much to the chagrin of my kids there were no delays. The trucks were out after midnight pre treating the roads, and as soon as it started to accumulate the plows were on it; then it was done.
I Ended with a smidge over 2" My official report is going in the books as 2 inches. From what I've seen a general 1-3" seems to be about right throughout most of our coverage area, with some areas with a C-1" and Im willing to bet there are a few areas of 3-4, maybe spotty 5 in SE CT or LI. Ill wait to see the final totals when the map comes out from NWS.
Overall Im very pleased with the original analysis on this thread and my original call as it played out pretty much spot on with the heavier bands ending up over the coastal plain. If they did set up further N&W I bet there would have many more higher totals, closer to the 4-6" range, due to better temp profiles.
We get plenty of arctic and polar fronts pass through the region without ever getting anything more than a quick line of squalls or flurries leaving a coating to an inch at best in isolated spots, or in many instances nothing at all. This set up though was clearly different. As the original analysis out lined there was def enhancement to vertical motion associated with this frontal boundary via the Jet streak to the north and the baroclinic zone set up between the warmth just to the S&E and the polar temps just to the N&W. Fun one to track IHMO
You see....It can accumulate when its 56 and raining the night before, even on the roads(esp when under the heavier bands). NEVER listen to anyone who says it wont happen, because it has in the past, it happened in the present, and will happen again in the future.
Onto the next one...WE TRACK!!!!!

Re: December 11th 2019 Snow Potential
Ha Ha Sroc..sorry the kids did not get their delay!! On too the next...and hopefully they will soon! It's funny how I got 1/2 inch in my back yard and as you know I live directly on the water. I drove my son to school this am and a few blocks going inland... they had an inch or more of snow and it looked like a winter wonderland on the grass and trees. Is that the effect of the warm waters?(not a complaint...just curious)
I say come on Mother Nature...Mugs' birthday is coming!!
