21.2/3

Radar shows moderate snow off to my SE.  See how much actually makes it to the ground.  I'm expecting about 2-3" from this.  Any more than 3", I'd be surprised.

Just some perspective on this winter so far.  Philly has officially recorded .1" so far.  They will surpass that in the next 30 minutes.

One thing I really don’t like is the HP really seems to be breaking down and shifting East. Need it to hold on as long as possible. That said LP is waaayy over Lake Michigan at 1004 but it also keeps the strongest WAA over there too.

30*, moderate snowfall and accumulating right away. This is the most satisfying snow event of the season already, and it's 20 minutes old with a coating on the ground. But the snow started early, is coming in at a real pace and is sticking on contact. (such a key factor that Hee Haw stressed all week).

This has all the makings of high bust, to the tune of an inch or two. But hey, me and the kids will take that and play...until the changeover anyways. Up to a quarter inch just since I've been typing.

(Edit: about 20 minutes after posting, I see that all the radars show a large dry slot about to hit me for the next hour or two. Hence, that optimism might be misplaced...we'll see...)

Here are the very early observations from this house's first snowstorm of the season:

"It's snowing good...all over the car and the street!"
6 year old Violet

"Wow, it's snowing a lot...even on your barbeque!"
4 year old Jacob

First flakes just starting here.  The radar makes it look like heavy precip, but its just a few light flakes.

Funny enough there is an area of 700mb frontogenesis along the NJ coast hence the intense snow rates you’re witnessing. It’s expected the area of extreme lift will expand to include other parts of NJ. The stuff coming thru now is fairly light. Real snow should fall after 2pm

And that area moved in and out very quickly! I guess it was a sort of like having a potent squall. Pretty cool, brought in a quick 1/2" anyway. Maybe we can cash in some of the real snow after the dry slot before the temps rise. But yeah I did see that the radar showed some really intense rates especially just north of me like near Point Pleasant and I-195 by the coast (GSP exits 90-100).

Getting very close to an inch. Nothing fancy, nothing extravagant. Just nice to know it's January.

25* with a steady light to moderate snow. Started a little after 11:30 a.m. and began to stick immediately. Roads are coated with snow (even primary roads). Right now have about a coating closing in on a half-inch soon I'm sure. Barring a complete disaster this is well on its way to being my most significant snow of the season -- certainly the most pleasing to watch.

Nada here just dry and cold. Looks like it's coming that band but after that there isn't much for a long while. I could see a inch out of this finished. Better than nothing.
