Up to 25° which is my high for the day. Two feet seems like a lock. Almost four years since the last two foot storm in March 2017.

EXCELLENT CP.
It was March 2018 CP, not 2017 with 27 inches in Monroe as per trained spotter.

Like normally I get a sleet line moving south to north or east to west but today it seemed like sleet advanced and then just parked itself in an isolated area of NJ surrounded by snow. Weird.

In Passaic County, the biggest one-day snowfall was 29.0 inches on Dec. 27, 1947 in the Macopin section of West Milford.
That compares to records in neighboring counties:
Essex County, 29.5 inches: Jan. 8, 1996
Bergen County, 29.1 inches: Dec. 26, 1947

Sneaky warm layer above 850 level. Would have to look at soundings to see but tbis is most likely what happenedZhukov1945 wrote:Can someone much smarter than me explain in simple terms why much of West NJ had an afternoon of sleet that seemed totally disconnected from the mix line generally? There was a particular band that came through right off the ocean that had warm air contained in it. You see it on the radar and the sleet line travelled with it up to EPA, and lot of north central NJ. There was a strong eastward jet that allowed the firehose, but the warm air too.

Thank you (and Bill) - am I crazy in perceiving that somehow the warm air got cleared in the east and somehow a persistent pocket got left in the west? Just never seen anything quite like it...but this was an unusual storm!
