I agree with Doc..rent for a bit..my neighbor before her husband died went down every winter..could not commit to year round...
That would be the wise thing to do weatherwatchermom. My sister has even offered to put me up for an extended stay. I really should take her up on it. One thing that keeps me from doing so is my 8 yr. old labrador retriever, wouldn't want to board him for anything more than a week. I know you are a dog person too, so I'm sure you understand.

Several members were promoted to a ranked status - mostly pro enthusiasts. Many have been loyal and posting the last couple of years and I felt it was deserved. Also, some pro enthusiast were promoted to senior enthusiasts after being part of this community for 4+ years. Lastly, I have been impressed with some analysis by @MattyICE and decided to make him an Advanced Forecaster. Congrats all

Greybeard, we are not getting any younger. Why not try it out first, rent a place for a month or two and keep the house up here.See how you like it.Next winter after I settle my Mom's estate (she passed at age 100 last August) and work out our treatment schedules (wife and I both in remission for cancer, hers is bladder, mine multiple myeloma, and this damn virus disappears, we would like to go for a month or two. When my Dad was alive, my parents had a small ranch in Boynton Beach in the Leisureville ( I called it seizureville) development. It was great in March, not hot yet, perfect temps in the 70's.My old arthritic bones can't take the cold and slipping on snow or ice could leave me up the creek without a paddle.
So true,Mom. My wife who hung on my every word, when we first met 26 years ago, now falls asleep on me! TY for the condolences and so glad you had this major snowstorm.

GreyBeard wrote:Doc, so sorry about your Mom's passing. God blessed her allowing her such a long life. My parents, God rest their souls, spent their last years in Florida. Dad loved it, Mom hated it. They passed 13 days apart. It was the last time I was in Florida. Almost 3 years ago now.
Like you, the cold for me is harder to take as I get older. I used to have a small summer cabin up on Candlewood Lake in Ct. Had it for 20 yrs. Just sold it 3 yrs. ago because the kids grew up and it was more work than pleasure as I did all the maintenance myself. Would have been smart to keep that place for summer use and spend winters in Florida. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say. Maybe someday we can meet up and have a pina colada down there one day.
So happy for you and the wife both being in remission for cancer. You take that long overdue trip to Florida. Got a kick out of the seizureville reference lol. I'm sure you've heard Florida also being referred to as Gods waiting room, I get a laugh when I think about that one.
Funny thing GreyBeard. it was the same with my parents, my Dad loved it and my Mom despised it and couldn't wait to get back to Jersey. They only stayed 3 months a year.True soulmates your Mom and Dad were! I always use that as the soulmate test, one spouse dying within a year of the other. My Mom outlived my Dad by 17 years so that tells the tale,LOL.
It's a date on that Pina colada wing ding in Florida!!!

Quietace- I'm FSU c/o 1995. One Saturday morning I walked out of my apt at around 10 am to see tiny snowflakes. I went right back inside to put on the news and call people to figure out what the hell was happening.
Within an hour, me and a few others were packed into two little cars and on our way up to Atlanta, which had just received a little over 12” of snow. The 5 hour drive took 9 hours. I-75 north of Macon or so, was a lot of fun!!! For every one car on the road there was at least one off to the side of the road.
We played football in the snow for about 20 minutes, went to the waffle house for hot chocolate and then drove home.
Back then, we lived by the following motto: There's a time and a place for everything, and it's called college!

1) Really cool you are a fellow FSU alum. I am sure you have some awesome story's and you'd probably be shocked at how Tallahassee has changed in the past 25 or so years.
2) Pretty cool story.
3) I came down here to start my MS and Ph.D. in the summer of 2018. I just missed the last snowfall the area received (coating to a trace) in January of 2018. It has been 4 years and nothing close has materialized. We are due.

I can always tell what the temp is outside by how far the Starbucks line extends into the street near campus. The R-value is incredible. I am sure the Alligators are in line this morning next to Florida man, especially since the 2 chic-fil-a's which are across the street from each other are closed.Frank_Wx wrote:Quietace wrote:19 here this morning. Doc
I am so sorry for loss. It's always rough losing a loved one and God Bless your mom for she is in God's Kingdom atbpeace and free of pain.
God Bless you and your wife on your battles with the evil disease of cancer. I will pray for you and your wife that your cancer satys in remission and you eradicate this from your bodies. You have joined an ever growing group of survivors and I have even greater company in our quest to beat this disease and support. Be well my friend and a Kinchley's meet up is definitely warranted for us Northerner posters!!

Could it be the great repeat of he 1994 MLK storm??
I Know DOC, CP, Nuts adn a few others remember that here but my God if that happens we are in for it. Lets hope the cold air is drilled in sooner and eh storm is slower so we can be all snow. Rain to Ice to Snow = NH.
The 1048 HP is strong adn it has HP's all around that will enforce it and just DRILL that cold air S/SE. This storm is range from the Texas deadlands to Main covering a massive swath of the US in Snow n Ice. These boundary front systems where LP ride along just reinforce themselves with LP impulses and surprise many.
Think back to SB 2014 - 53* in the morning and once that arctic front swung through we had 8" of snow by noon the Monday after. Peeps I told and on here were skeptical - Never underestimate Climo and the HP configurational nd how cold Canada has been and continues to be I can see such a solution.

TWC has me down for 12-20". Accuweather says 3-6" of snow with 0.25-0.50" of ice. One way or another, this is going to be an event to remember.

It's 15* right now. I heard some kind of commotion outside so I looked out my window and there are 4 adults and about a dozen kids walking up and down the street, protesting having to wear masks. I don't care which side of the argument that you fall on. The idea that anybody would have elementary school kids marching carrying signs is, to me at least, ridiculous.

Re: Banter Thread 7.0
I know I was and have been relatively silent through the storm this weekend. Life has been throwing me some interesting twists and turns these days. I never actually posted totals, pics, etc. so better late than never. Overall it was a good storm. We did experience blizzard conditions during the day on Saturday which was fun. In the end based on avg measurements and the NWS map I ended with about 15”. It was tough because like many I had 3’ snow drifts and areas measuring 4-6” because of how high the ratios and winds were blowing things around. Anyway obviously we are all already on to the next threat. Here are a few pics from Saturday.

As an aside places west and east of me ended up with totals about 3-5” higher because they continued to snow at 1-3”+ and hour, for a couple of hours more than me while I was stuck between two killer bands in the dreaded subsidence zone. East and west cont to pile up while I whined like a child. lol We have all been there

Scott I hope all is okay with you and your family.
See New Haven and Hamden above you. My Son goes to school at Quinnipiac and he said it was an absolute blizzard for most of Saturday. Zoo adn I had this happen earlier in the night where there was a band just to our east and one to our west.

Doc, amazing how hyper-local those bands get.Up here in the HV, CP, a little east of me, got into a band.He came out with 9 and I had 6.Just a few miles makes a difference.
