September 2022 Observations and Discussions
Welcome to September and meteorological Fall. Looks like we'll have to wait a little while for the real "Fall" weather however.
72* and Sunny here, heading up to the mid-to-upper-80s. Not awful, but still a little warm for today's date.

That was a sweater morning Damian. Looks like some showers as per NWS after today.

.6" for today, we'll see what the totals are by Wednesday. Really don't need this all at once though. We have flooding issues by me and mugsy as we get a lot of water running downstream from NYS. ugh, going to be a long night Monday into Tuesday.

55 degrees right now. Here, another inch of rain. Forecast shows rain, lots of it, coming up here. I hope it verifies. It will be nice to see. We had a fire near us in a park. It is contained but for the last few days, nothing but the smell of smoke in the air. The rain that came helped the firefighters. It was a lightning strike that started it so they say. It looks like the pool will be open a bit longer than usual.

Re: September 2022 Observations and Discussions
Crazy looks like I-287 and south are go stay dry (not a drop of rain here in weeks), its all training just north of here unreal, flash flooding in CT is severe 2-4 inches in New London County has fallen with another 2-3+ in the next few hours. They could be looking at a foot of rain by my guess. Disaster. That's not go help the drought that's go a be a repeat of Ida except for them maybe worse.

Re: September 2022 Observations and Discussions
On the most bizarre radar ive seen, its like the coast is keeping the rain 5 to 1- miles north of it all way up 95. No rain except sprinkles on I-95 but inland just that short distance severe flash flooding.

Re: September 2022 Observations and Discussions
Heavy waves of rain here.
.72" between yesterday and today so far.
It's a help and hopefully by Wedensday there a 2 in front of that number.
Just 5 days ago the GFS had a 15 day outlook of light rainfall during the period. That is a not going to be the case for many.

Re: September 2022 Observations and Discussions
I hope everyone had an amazing summer! We still have a little bit to go, but once the calendar turns September 1st I'm ready for Fall
I'll save tropics banter for the tropics thread, but want to comment how slow evolving the tropical season has been to this point. I have to research some more on why that is the case. Still a long way to go though, and it only takes one major hurricane to do damage.
What else stands out to me as I catch up on weather patterns is the ENSO, and how we're STILL in a La Nina regime.
The pattern has been operating under a Nina regime since Spring of 2020. Three straight years!! The closest stretch of consecutive La Nina years I can find since 1979 is 2010-2012, but honestly the 2020-2022 rivals that one for sure.
While La Nina rages on, we are seeing above normal SSTA's in the northern Pacific. A +PDO could be a precursor to -EPO/+PNA conditions, but it's still very early in Meteorological Fall that I don't even want to get my hopes up that this will stick around for upcoming winter.
I plan to bring the Long Range thread back in mid to late September

I'm at about 2.1" since Sunday night, thankfully not much in the way of downpours, it's been slow and steady so really beneficial for me!

Yep, figure we will end up 2 to 2.5 inches of wonderful rain.Great it was mostly a nice, steady type with a few heavier showers, so there is no flooding.
