It was a super day here. 70 degrees. Just a beautiful day.
Doc, CP, Scott, mom, et al. , we all could have been out on the deck today with a kegger going while dancing YMCA

Re: Rocktober Obs & Discussions
This past Saturday was the better half of the weekend weatherwise. With that in mind, I drove from Albany to the mid-Hudson region to experience the foliage. More specifically, I went to Bear Mountain State Park. I hiked from the parking area up to the summit (where Perkins Memorial Tower is). According to my app, I climbed the equivalent of 108 flights of stairs during this hike. I will say though, when I made it to the top, I was (slightly) disappointed at how the view (looking mainly south) was still mainly green and had not yet gone full towards the yellow/orange/red yet. But here was the picture I took:
When I went into Perkins Memorial Towers, I saw the the view to the north had the more colorful view. So on the downward leg of the hike, I took some pictures looking north. Here is one featuring the Hudson River on the right hand side of the screen and (I believe) Brooks Lake on the left:
When I got back down, I did take some pictures of Hessian Lake. Here is one with trees right behind by the lake and hills in the distance:
Finally, after I left the Park, while on the westbound US-6, I pulled over into the small parking area in Harriman to see some good views to the north. Here is a picture I took from there 30 minutes before sunset, looking north towards the NYS Thruway (I-87):
I should note that rather going back on the highway right away, I took a more scenic drive via NY-32 North to around Newburgh and saw breathtaking views in the Woodbury/Central Valley region. Unfortunately, there was no good place for me to simply pull over and take pictures there.
That being said, it was quite the trip.

Math, your pictures are very nice. Thank you for sharing and please feel free to gift us more.
It looks like rain could still happen today. From yesterday to this morning, about 1.25 inches of rain which is just ducky because we need it. I do not mind sitting at home with a cup of hot tea, listening to Judy Collins. Yes. That is how old I am.

Wow, does that bring back memories of filling in applications back in 1969.Had to get medical exams with that too.It was a PIA back then, can't even guess how it is now.Anyway, best of luck Mom on the acceptances.
LOL, did those Tequila shooters a few times.Found my hard drink of choice back in the early 90's when a Buddy whose Dad owned a small restaurant in the City, had stored a case of Early Times Bourbon from back in the 1960's, in the garage. They uncovered that case that had aged 30 years with the great formula Early Times used then. All those bottles were consumed in great parties we had over the yeasrs.Closest to it today is Makers Mark, same kind of flavor.,LOL.Anyway, now it's just a few glasses of organic red for me these days.

Southerly flow expected this weekend ahead of a cut-off low in the southeast. You might think this means warmer than normal weather, but there will be a dip in the 250mb jet stream which keeps winds out of the north. Thus, temps this weekend in the 50's and low 60's. Fall-like!

53 for the low here this morning. Just another lovely night with the window open and the electric blanket on. The dog loves that blanket as much as I. Leaves are dropping like crazy and will be down in five weeks. So will the windows. I am enjoying the weather immensely. A few minutes 2x a day with the centeal air on and the humidity inside the house gets gone

Frank and all isn't it amazing that we see this colored map and right away people say warmth or torch. This time of the year that is not the case necessarily if at all to the position of the HP. Its in upstate NY which means it will drain the colder air into the area unlike if the HP was position over Western VA. That would be more of a SW flow = warmth.

LOL, Damian on the numbers.Way back in the 40's and 50's my Grandma had a dreambook that gave you a number to play for a certain dream.Bookies had a bag man going around the neighborhood to collect the quarters people played.
Anyhoo, hit a low of 27 here and very heavy frost.Grass was almost totally white,LOL.Leaves coming down big time now, 50% trees are bare here.
