June 2023 Observations and Discussion
June off to a somewhat hot start. Wasn't too bad in the shade but was baking in the sun this afternoon.

Quick storm came through earlier today for about 45 mins. It took the temp down from 92 to 77. A half inch of rain. Some broken limbs on the road. Six inch stuff whose time had come. Somewhat rotted out. Impressive thunder. We went inside as soon as it came through.

It is a shame the sky looks so threatening. We have an outdoor wedding at 5. No contingency plans. It looks likr the sky will open up in a few. At the least, a wet venue. At worst, rain.
66. 88% humidity. Looks cool for several days

43* yesterday low
47* this morning low
60* is the Normal average temp
This is the culprit

With the exception of the two hot days last Thursday/Friday, has definitely been a chilly regime. With that howling northeast wind at the shore Saturday it felt like, and people were bundled up like, it was November.

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
Well, regarding my previous thoughts, I had all the players on the board, and the right idea. But I did not foresee this Gulf of Maine low becoming dominant there and squashing the entire flow over the eastern CONUS. I thought the energy associated with that would end up shearing apart in response to the retrogression to set the main trough a little further west, instead of becoming the dominant trough itself.
All in all, the sensible impacts have been pretty much on point for New England and the coastal portions of our area, but the overall evolution wasn’t exactly what I thought. If “a horse is a horse, unless, of course, that horse is Mr. Ed.”, then a bust is a bust, and you heard it straight from this horse’s mouth haha at least I did have some model support for a day or two, so at least it made it exciting haha

Wasn't quite as bad early today here, but has gotten awful in the last few hours. Very low visibility and a strong smoke smell. Can't even open the windows here the smell is so strong. Unreal is a good word.

Yeah, it's wild. The smell is interesting. Notably different from the smell of a backyard fire pit. Just came back from a walk and the wind blowing like it was, with the weird light and blood red sun, it was like a creepy movie.
WCBS just had a smoke forecast and tomorrow evening looks to be worse.

I never seen this much smoke in my life. I don’t know if it’s cloudy or heavy smoke. The smell of burning is insane.

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
I’m coming out of hibernation to say how nuts is this smoke that is essentially choking all of NYC Metro?? I did not realize the HRRR can measure smoke density and the forecast is pretty scary. Right now we’re under the red shading. The unit of measurement is microgram per cubic meter (I think?). Basically the result is what you see outside.
By Wednesday morning, the PURPLE shade, basically the thickest possible smoke this model can measure, is over Upstate NY with what will likely cause almost blackout conditions during the day.
Kinda funny how Maine is dodging all of the smoke.

Is that pink area going to swing into our area because the NWS mentions it will be worse tomorrow afternoon and evening. It is unreal as it is I can smell it and I know I am out of shape but a li9ght stroll from my car and I was coughing, it sucks as I have to have the windows open so smells inside too.Frank_Wx wrote:I’m coming out of hibernation to say how nuts is this smoke that is essentially choking all of NYC Metro?? 56. Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, Bluegill and Brown Bullhead. The best baits for largemouth bass are spinnerbaits, plastic worms and weedless topwater baits. Small micro jigs and nightcrawlers work great for the panfish.I am sure you know. Just getting you fired up

Stay inside old man...jk, be careful if you do go. I am a chipper almost 42 and i been coughing. but in all seriousness no one should be doing outdoor activities today. they canceled my daughters field day and my sister up in syracuse all outdoor activities have been canceled. The fires are unreal seeing drone images from today, why are they not working to put them out or are they just too big to even try? It has been nice out cool, but having the windows open probably isn't the best thing but it gets too hot in here otherwise.docstox12 wrote:In the words of an old song..."the morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball"!

I saw a article sigh saying climate change is to blame...umm how did it light a match and start the fire? Stupidest shit I ever heard. I do wonder how it started, if they figure out it was a camper and who it was they should serve some serious jail time for causing such destruction, sad to see so many trees and thousands of animals perish.
