The fires are unreal seeing drone images from today, why are they not working to put them out or are they just too big to even try? It has been nice out cool, but having the windows open probably isn't the best thing but it gets too hot in here otherwise.docstox12 wrote:In the words of an old song..."the morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball"!
48 degrees, cloudy, hazy calm winds.Going to Glenmere Lake this morning for a little fishing and to enjoy the smoky air.Anyway, last few days are a homeowners delight......no heat or ac needed,LOL.
I saw a article sigh saying climate change is to blame...umm how did it light a match and start the fire? Stupidest shit I ever heard. I do wonder how it started, if they figure out it was a camper and who it was they should serve some serious jail time for causing such destruction, sad to see so many trees and thousands of animals perish.
Over 400 fires going..over 6 million acres burned so far...they are working on it..but massive areas

Been looking at all the air quality readings in the area all day. When the sky got darkest here in Bloomfield we were in the 300-350 range for fine particulates, peaking at 360.
Right now the five boroughs and central/west NJ / eastern PA are looking at fine particulate readings in the 300 and 400+, Princeton with a reading of 460.

These are the levels:
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups - 101-150
Unhealthy: 151-200
Very Unhealthy: 201-300
Hazardous: 301-500

Great write up by Martrich
Let's move on to tomorrow and why it's different. Starting with the first image, X marks the wildfire source region. Low pressure today (black L) is in eastern Maine, sending smoke along the black line (approximate) into our region around low pressure. Tomorrow the same low… pic.twitter.com/7ErKhHanIH

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
The sun was not visible at all here now you can see it but when things went dark you couldn't see it at all. School is closed here tomorrow. I got a notice of my package delayed due to weather exception. I guess mail people do get a break from smoke. Through rain sleet and snow, but no smoke.billg315 wrote:Yeah, pretty much same here. Orange hue, and the sun is barely visible. Had to really zoom in to even find it in that picture. Dusk-like light conditions.

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
Jesus max 700 whever gets under that god help them!! I wonder how many smoke related hospitalizations thjere were today. I heard a unusual amount of sirens all day. We can only hope, though I dunno I am hearing it could be just as bad here 300+ range. The fact that NYC was rated the most hazerdous air quality in the world today is quite something. It was beyond bizarre the orange and dark/dusk like conditions from 10ish to 2 or so. It then went whiter and the sun can be seen but it is hazed over still. Yes I did put in and plug in the AC and running fans despite my not wanting to stat the electric bill yet.amugs wrote:Great links Pete and thanks for sharing.

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
Had gone up to Glenmere Lake for a little shore fishing, very hazy and strong odor of smoke. After an hour of that, eyes started burning and left.
Seems a little clearer out now, but tomorrow still looks bad.Friday afternoon things get better.

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
it’s by me today it wasn’t that bad I just noticed it’s starting to get dark. The sun is gone. And it looks like it’s going to rain and thunder but there’s no rain on the radar and they do smell a little bit of smoke from the wildfires. And yes the winds are starting to pick up here we go again.jmanley32 wrote:Things are getting worse again wind picked up and levels jumped from around 100 to 150-200. Sky is white but no sun, not sure if it is clouds or if it is all smoke, not really something we can tell by looking outside.

Re: June 2023 Observations and Discussion
I think if you look at a coud map it will not differentiate between clouds and the smoke. The models had it pouring into western PA today which did not happen.frank 638 wrote:it’s by me today it wasn’t that bad I just noticed it’s starting to get dark. The sun is gone.
