Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Do not trust the diamond look on the GFS, but the Jersey coast does seem vulnerable for additional heavy rainfall tomorrow
Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Look out Cape May, NJ

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Raining pretty hard here plenty of lightning and thunder as well. But wow, look at the two areas of dark red, one just off the South Shore of Long Island (with even pink), the other just off the Jersey Shore. This is from 3 AM Wednesday 10/22:

Just drizzle here seems be staying just south of the city. Accwx is calling for wind gusts to increase today to 35 to 40 mph and tomorrow 40 to 45 mph. Do any of u buy this? I'm not seeing any wind right now.

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Once the coastal gets going it will get breezy from the northeast wind. Meanwhile, Jersey Shore getting hammered right now with training storms. Flash flooding and 3+ inches of rain likely there. We are in a subsidence zone right now. Probably won't see a whole lot.

I got rain with some small hail mixed in for a short time this morning. Cutoff of rain was sharp though, from moderate rain around the Cross Bx to light rain/dizzle at the Westchester line to next to nothing around White Plains

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
I know dtone, it appears that huge batch of rain is rotating in this way though,Frank sroc or mugs etc. Will that make it into NYC southern WC area or is it staying out over LI and CT? Stil lcalm as can be in regards to wind, isn't supposed to pick up any until later tonight as I understand it.

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
I'm getting decent winds here now, waiting on the rain, haven't had any here since last night. It is rotating in, but it looks like HV and NNJ may miss the bulk of the moisture, since the LP looks like it is heading more NE than N. Heavier bands over LI will make it to CT and upper HV...thinking mugs and I get skunked again!

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
The rain bands have been pretty stationary over central NJ all day. There must be some inverted trough feature in the upper atmosphere, kind of like a norlun, keep the bands over that area only.

HRRR showing some high wind gusts tonight. As high as 60 mph along the coast, 40-50 mph elsewhere.

You can see inside those rain bands along the jersey shore is where wind gusts are highest, in the 30-40 mph range. Once these bands make it into our area, we may experience similiar onditions.

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Hey Frank, so I got it spot on this time! 35-45mph, wasn't expect the 60+ though (but as you said under rain bands), does this include my area, around NYC and immediate suburbs? It is getting a bit windy now, how long will the wind persist, will I be better off tomorrow with a raincoat than an umbrulla?

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Dang 79mph, are you sure thats accurate? Is that HRRR 10m wind map sustained or gusts? Does the bands look to get into the area up here in Bronx area (I might as well say that because I am literally a half mile or less away from northern Bronx?

So sroc do you think I could see some of those stronger winds up here or will it be mainly confined to jersey shore CT, MA etc?

There are hail signatures showing in those cells, no vortex signatures yet although there looks like a couplet forming in that one cell

Re: Coastal Storm 10/22-10/23
Don't shoot me now but I looked the only place I know that has a futurecast radar (TWC) and it shows all that rain from the east rotating into central CT and down into hudson valley encompasing whole area after 10pm looks like. Do not know how accurate that thing is ibut if its right could be in for quite a night. I will be interested to see what happens with that vorticy if it makes it to cast, hope its not too bad whatever it is, BTW if the wind gusted to 79mph there has to be damage reports (at least power and trees thats not going to do nothing), anyone find any?
