I'm on the Great South Bay in West Islip, Suffolk County NY. Things have really picked up in the last 20 minutes. It's really cranking out there!

Sit back, relax, and let the orchestra start playing the symphony! It's going to be spectacular!

Jman you have to stop asking. Whether it's 15 inches or 24, it's still a lot. Too tough to tell right now until the storm reaches a better latitude.

This is the NAM simulated radar between 9-10pm. I just looked at the 7pm and it's about a half hour behind, but it's matching up closely.

23* 16mph winds cant see shit
Lonnie Quinn had his sleeves rolled up, CBS is sticking with the coverage for now..
Showed the differences in models how the nam shows over 30 for the city
Euro shows 17 for the city on HIS maps
still sticking with 12-24" for the region

billg315 wrote:A couple thoughts for people getting antsy. The storm is already developing as expected. It will be historic. It may be that the heaviest totals are over Long Island and Conn., rather than NYC and NE NJ, but that says nothing about the magnitude of the storm just a modest shift in location. And if most of NW NJ and Central NJ get 6-12" of snow that is not a bust. Any other time where we weren't comparing those amounts to feet, and we'd be talking about 6-12" as a major snowstorm. On Saturday morning most mets were calling for 1-3 inches today. Total. Anyway, I'm still not sure most of us aren't going to get over a foot anyway. Let's be patient.
6-12 after calling for an epic snowstorm not seen for quite some time, yes it is a bust. Had they downgraded their predictions, then it wouldn't be a bust. I think sometime in February we could see something big, but I couldn't shake a disappointment feeling about this storm for the snow weenies. It reminds me of when I lived in FL. Hurrican Floyd was supposed to slam into Jacksonville as a cat 4 and rip us but at the last minute shifted and carolina a pounding.

Re: BLIZZARD JAN 26TH-27TH: OFFICIAL OBSERVATION THREAD
Looking at the wrap around snow filling in from Central PA to D.C./MD, some of which seems to be of fairly good intensity. Am I wrong to believe that eventually pulls east as the storm deepens to fill in behind whatever bands come in off the ocean? Or does it just dissipate to the west of us?

When the hell did 12-24 become a bust? No one really believed 4-5 feet but just enjoy the satellites images. This is an amazing storm forming. I am in awe. And still to come...THUNDERSNOW!

Re: BLIZZARD JAN 26TH-27TH: OFFICIAL OBSERVATION THREAD
Everyone just take a step back....Central Park already has more snow in one day than it has gotten all winter, be happy! This storm is still getting its act together and can still dump a yearly average on us in the next 24 hours. Yes a jog to the east or to the west may change accumulations by a few inches to any particular area but.................we are still talking about a major amount of snow and wind and drifting. Just sit back and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: BLIZZARD JAN 26TH-27TH: OFFICIAL OBSERVATION THREAD
Got home from work about an hour ago. Working at a supermarket, I spent the bulk of my shift pushing carts. Since we were under that band of heavy snow, it became a struggle to do so. Luckily, the manager give me a few extra employees to help with them. By 3 PM the big crowd diminished greatly. In fact, the guy in the snowplow helped by driving the carts across the parking lot (while I helped steer them). It was kind of cool to say the least.
Anyway, I think Bellerose (where I am) is in for a long night as the latest guidance has the snow wrapping around giving us moderate to heavy snow through at least 8 PM.
Here was the radar map from weatherbell.com as of 7:15 PM (Bellerose is where the pink pushpin is):
Look at that band near Montauk! That is tracking westward towards where Scott is.
