Re: BLIZZARD JAN 26TH-27TH: OFFICIAL OBSERVATION THREAD
Wow, after looking at those radar images, this storm is definitely going to slam LI. As for NYC and NE jersey, there could be a possibility of under a foot. Late min prediction..... very late. 10 inches of snow for NE Jersey and NYC. TWC may be a little to quick to write things off, but I'm sure their hunch is right on this one.

Its still too early to say this is a bust, the storm is just starting we have to be patient. One the h5 closes off the heavy bands will rotate in.

HectorO wrote:Whys is this post getting so heart broken over little things? Jesus, are we not all adults? We've mentioned seeing radars, that don't show favorable conditions. What do you want? For us do dig up samples from the atmosphere and fly a weather plane into the storm to collect data? Sometimes I think this board is way overdone compare to what ABC was. There has to be a medium. ABC was not strict enough and this board is too strict. Just because you don't like what we predict by looking at a radar that shows the storm pretty far out west compare to what we were expecting doesn't mean posts should be deleted.
No one is heart broken over your posts...

RJB It is snowing I did not measure yet, but walking to apartment I had about 3 or 4 i think. After i eat i will go out, want to shovel cars every few hrs to avoid having to do a major dig out tomorrow. If I really pull myself in I realize if I had heard a foot without anything higher i would be excited, i guess its all the major closures and even my job closing that has my hopes really high and it is still early, so my hopes are still good.

Re: BLIZZARD JAN 26TH-27TH: OFFICIAL OBSERVATION THREAD
I'm just gonna start reporting what I see from now on. Can someone tell me best way to measure snow with these many drifts from the high winds? I have decent sized back yard. Want to get accurate readings from south shore of nassau. Seems like lots of people here are from the Island so this could be fun. Any help would be great.

Looking outside very light snow, no real wind YET, but it looks like everything is coming into line. Of course the east is going to start western areas will be later I imagine. I really am hopeful for the H5, not asking just saying.

This is going to be tough. Find an area where there won't be much wind. Or use a flat table. But some snow may try blowing off of that. You will have to measure in several spot and take an average

Re: BLIZZARD JAN 26TH-27TH: OFFICIAL OBSERVATION THREAD
Wish a had a weather station. Winds seem really high by me but im also 4-5 miles from ocean. Think I'll pick 5 spots in the yard and take the average. Coming down moderately i think. Can't tell...wind is blowing snow upwards.
