Do you seriously want to be buried like that? I get tired of digging out of these snowstorms especially these annoying ice events, they got nowhere to put snow and ice and its putting a serious strain on their infrastructure and driving them crazy, im sick of these damn single digits and cold and il take one big storm and be done with it. I would NOT want to be in Boston right now And have to deal with being stuck in your own house or have your roof cave in are you serious? Do you have any idea what that would do to a place like NJ or NYC the most densly populately area in the United States, itd be a disaster.syosnow94 wrote:I'm officially done with this winter BS. Not because I don't love it but because that city Northeast of us out of nowhere is getting another 4 to 6" tonight out of a "surprise" snowstorm which will put them over 105" for the year. B.S. Yeah I would actually like being buried like that. I love extreme weather. I also have to admit I get a kick out of the media and public panic that come with extreme weather. And before you guys start yelling at me for not understanding how bad it would be for the sick and elderly and so on, I take care free of charge of 5 houses on my block where the residents are too old to do it Themaelves. if everyone else able bodied did what i do we'd be fine regardless of how much snow fell

Consistently seeing low temps in the single digits and below zero is a difficult feat to accomplish in late February. Seeing pics of the Hudson practically frozen over just amazes me. This cold is quite historic and one I'll never forget. Winter 2014-2015 will be memorable in that respect.
Last winter was way colder than this one, though.
Well it was more spread out over the course of the season last year. This season it came in one shot but has stuck with us for a good 3 weeks or so. Winter 2013-2014 was more memorable for frequent moderate snow events with snow pack almost the entire season due to colder than normal weather.

I've kept it in the scroll the last couple of days but LI does have to watch for minor snow accumulation tonight. Coatings to an inch at most.

Re: February 2015 Obs. & Discussions Thread
As of this morning the February average temperature in Central Park is 23.8°. Seven of the last 12 days have had lows in the single digits. It looks like this will be on track to be the third coldest February since 1870.
At Orange County Airport the average temperature for February is now 15°. The average high is 27 and the average low is an impressive 3°. There have been 11 days of subzero lows. Two days the low has been 13 below zero.
To put these numbers into perspective consider the average February temperatures in he following cities:
Chicago Illinois 29°
Albany New York 26°
Minneapolis Minnesota 21°
This is probably the most impressive cold spell since January 2004. It hasn't been as cold as the January 1994 outbreak but it has been a longer stretch. If this intrusion of cold air happened in January it may have been as cold as the 1994 outbreak.
I got a look at the Hudson River up by Newburgh yesterday and it's pretty much frozen over solid from end-to-end. Usually there is an area in the middle where the ships cut a path through the ice but it looks like they've even given up on that now. Not that I would want to do it but you could pretty much walk from shore to shore. It reminded me of the stories you would hear about the Revolutionary war times when the troops would actually walk cannons and horses over the river in winter from New Jersey to Manhattan. It would be nice if they had decent weather records from back then. I know I've read stories from one of the winters back then that there was a stretch in New York City where the temperature was 15 to 20 below zero for several mornings. That's why the Hudson River froze over as solid as it did.
Time for work.

Not only one of the coldest February ever but in the top 10 coldest months overall. That's pretty impressive. Im in Nyack today i was checking out the ice flows in the Hudson. The east river has a lot of ice too which is even more rare. Its a nice sight to see. Ive seen small ice on a few occasions but it was really jammed up yday, amazing stuff.
Upper 20s*, sunshine and no wind feels great right now.

None for me. Never made it further west than the Quogue area which is on the south fork. Based on Radar I wouldnt be surprised to hear of 1-2" reported but cant confirm that.

I was in Edgewater NJ this AM near the GW Bridge.75% of the Hudson is ice covered which is amazing down there.Hackensack and Ramapo Rivers frozen solid.Had to look because I think we are at the high point for iced up rivers, next week starts the gradual warm-up.Snow pack might have reached it's peak last Sunday AM right after the 4 inches up here. We'll see if anything happens this weekend.
I read long ago CP that in early December in the 1770's or 1780's in Northern NJ in early December there were 20 inch snowstorms within a few days of each other.Great pattern that year!
