Ice in Delaware bay forced closure of Cape May-Delaware Ferry. I never recall this happening.

Great chart.
It would be interesting to know that very long stretch at CPK from late Dec 1947 to Feb 1948 was due to extremely cold temps preserving that snowpack or just many snowfalls. That Dec 1947 was around 26 inches I think, so that started the ball rolling that season. This current season is way behind '47-'48.

Morning low this morning of an even 0.0.
No fanfare since it's now the 13th morning this month of 0 or below.
The ice in the lakes must three feet thick by now.

Bottomed out at -3.8, up to -0.8 now.
14 sub zero days this month or 1 of every 2 days. It's become very routine and may I add enjoyable.

Lees is having a little trouble counting, as is everyone else on TV.
Actually it's tied for 10th coldest month. Even the mets on TV can't get through their heads that 2 times in January the average was 23.7 in two separate years, 1912 & 1893, they keep counting its as one year. I'm still waiting for a genius on TV to figure that out, this isn't difficult stuff, it's pretty sad actually. Does anyone fact check anymore?
The average for the month right now is 24.1 which ties it for 10th coldest month ever and tied for 3rd coldest February. Today should drop the average for the month to 24.0 which will put it alone at 3rd coldest February and 10th coldest month. A very impressive stretch and all done without a monumental cold period like January 1994.
Still no subzero reading in NYC since 1994. From 1870 to 1994 there was a subzero reading in NYC one out of every three winters, now they haven't had one in 21 years. That doesn't speak to global warming or anything else but too how severe the heat island effect has become there.

Low of 5*.
CP absolutely talks to the heat island and the amount of urban sprawl in the city and surrounding lands. In college had a class called urban geography and our prof showed us maps of the city and surrounding areas from 1900 to then 1990 amazing how much farmland and rural land is now cement and blacktop. Excellent point there professor CP.

CP, I put in the high/low temperatures for the first 27 days of February onto Excel and multiplied them by 54 (27*2). I then put in the equation 24.05*56 and I got 1,346.8. I put in the sum of all 27 highs/low AND the (what I think) was this morning's low in NYC (14) and got 1,313. And 1346.8 - 1313 = 33.8. So if today's high is 33 or less, then CPK would have sole possession of 3rd coldest February and 10th coldest month.
Also, I looked at what is the 10th coldest February on record (25.9) and I put in the equation 25.85*56 and got 1,447.6. And 1,447.6 - 1313 = 134.6. Unless CPK somehow gets higher than 134 degrees today ( ) then February 2015 is officially one of the 10 coldest Februarys on record.
