The good thing about that map is I'm not in the jackpot, which I hate being in this far out. Of course in this scenario getting 18 inches means not being in the jackpot. Oh if I had but one wish, it would be this map times 2.

Hey I'm technologically ignorant but I will try to post some pictures. I have hundreds already since we've owned the place since 1993. I actually had my entire family come to the computer to look at the 3 beautiful pictures you posted after this last storm. Gorgeous place you live in there. Your kids have nature, a dog and caring parents. What else could they want. Great job weatherwatchmom!! Laughing Laughing

By the way. Today is the 44th consecutive day here on LI that my ice rink I built for the kids in the backyard has been up and running. I built it out of snow and water that's it and it's unbelievable. 38 by 16 feet. An Ice rink on Long Island for 44 days with no cooling system other than mother nature. Now that's how you know it's been a cold winter!!!!

Did not even think about that, but yeah only if it recurved, and it certainly would not be in the 800mb's, if it was the US would be devstated across the country.

BTW I used to be a landscaper and I loved mowing lawns.  I then worked as a grounds keeper on a 9 hole golf course and driving the tractor to mow the rough took all day, had a cooler on board and my boss was cool with whatever beverage I wanted heh, as long as I did not crash lol, did once but that was because I was so tired from working two jobs, I ran dead into a tree, no damage, lucky I was wearing seatbelt (when I say tractor I mean a big 5 foot deck tractor with power steering and incline control, was fun to drive and was FAST!  The worst thing I ever did was run over a snap valve for the irrigation system and caused a guiser and flooded on the 9th hole (yeah boss wasn't too happy but only repercussion was I had to stay late till dark to help dig it up and replace it).  Needless to say he was a really cool guy.

Love the chase and thrill of the storm but boy does it make you tired - early am and late nights. One after another after another - it has been unreal and just imagine if this darn pattern switched in late or even Mid Dec?! I thought last year was great with tracking and this year is coming close if we can get some more in the next few weeks, notice I said few!! Very Happy

There is some hope for late winter snow.

Taken from Rob Frydlewicz website
http://thestarryeye.typepad.com/weather/snowstorms/
Thanks Mr Frydlewicz. There is hope. Maybe if we get lucky we make history.

March 5, 1981 - A heavy, wet snowfall of 8.6" was a record amount for the date. This storm also has the distinction of being the second largest accumulation in the month of March in the 1970-2014 period.

April 6, 1982 - Just 1.1" of snow had fallen in February and March when a blizzard dumped 9.6" of snow on the City today, less than a week before Easter. More than a foot fell in New Jersey and Westchester County. The storm started as rain in the pre-dawn hours and changed over to snow mid-morning and lasted through late afternoon. By midnight the temperature had fallen to a record low 21 degrees. This was the most snow to fall so late in the season since ten inches fell on April 3, 1915.

March 8-9, 1984 - Snow moved in the night of the 8th and by daybreak 6.9" had accumulated (5.1" of it fell on the 9th). It was a powdery snow, with just 0.38" of water content.

March 19, 1992 - The biggest snowfall of the winter occurred today, a sloppy 6.2". This tripled the winter's relatively snowless snow total to 9.4". Just two degrees separated the day's high and low (33/31). Three days later 3.2" of snow that fell during the evening played a role in the crash of US Air Flight 405 at La Guardia Airport. Not de-iced properly, the plane failed to gain altitude and crashed into Long Island Sound, killing 27 on board.

March 13, 1993 - The great March Superstorm (also called "Storm of the Century") paralyzed the Eastern third of the nation and dumped 10.6" of snow on NYC. The heavy snow changed to sleet and rain later in the afternoon, a Saturday, reducing the predicted snow total by about six inches. The sound of the sleet lashing against the windows of my apartment, propelled by 40-60 mph wind gusts, was deafening. All told, 2.37" of precipitation was measured.

March 22, 1998 - It appeared this winter was going to have the least snow on record, as just 0.5" had been measured. Then a surprise five-inch snowfall occurred overnight and the winter of 1997-98 ended up as the second least snowy (behind 1972/73, which had only 2.8"). It would fall to third place four years later when the winter of 2001-02 had just 3.5".

April 7, 2003 - Four inches of snow fell, the biggest April snowfall in twenty-one years. This brought the season's snowfall close to 50 inches.

March 16, 2007 - An all-day onslaught of sleet and snow dumped 5.5" of icy precipitation, the biggest snow of the winter. This storm somewhat resembled last month's severe sleet storm on Valentine's Day, but this one had considerably more snow. The total amount of precipitation was 2.07", a record for the date. This was the last snowfall of the winter, a winter in which just 12.4" fell, quite a contrast from the previous four winters, all of which had at least forty inches of snow.

March 1-2, 2009 - 8.3" of snow fell from a quick-moving storm that began the night of the 1st (when 1.8" fell), making this the largest accumulation of the winter (and the most to fall in three years). 12-15" fell out on Long Island.
