Doc, I haven't seen the Ramapo River this winter. However considering how ice filled the Hudson River is right now up by us and considering how much bigger and deeper it is then the Ramapo River, my guess would be the only reason the Ramapo River is ice free right now is because of how fast it runs almost like a fast running stream. Those always seem to be the first bodies of water that breakup and start flowing again. I haven't seen the Monro Lake in a couple of weeks but the lake behind me you can still walk across.
You're right,CP, the Ramapo runs pretty good and that's why it's clear.Lakes and ponds around me still frozen solid with maybe a few areas of water.Hudson by Newburgh still filled with ice.Areas where sun hits grass is visible. Saw some flurries a few minutes ago and very windy.

37. No Sun. Very windy. Just had a few minutes of freezing rain. Ground is still snow covered. Going to be miserable for the parade which two of my grandkids are in. But they will have fun anyway. They love this weather. Think I'll stay home.

I live in a small valley and I noticed that the east facing hills (my neighborhood) only has 1-4 inches of snow in shaded areas while west facing hills have a solid 6-10 inches almost everywhere.

I know this is kinda late but I heard there was also a multiple car pileup this morning due to ice at around 6:45 AM SB on the PSP by exit 13, right by my house. I didn't see it but it must have been bad, news helicopters were swarming the area.

Re: March 2015 Observations & Discussions
34.7 light rain
My front lawn, no shade south east facing with sun all day, is the first to be exposed in the neighborhood like every year around this time. How ironic the snow nut moves into the house that is most exposed to the sun. And in the back where the lawn has full shade and is northwest facing I'm still under 4-6 inches of snow.
Crossing my fingers for Friday snow, the perfect way to bring in spring.

Light rain here also.Seeing the lawn again in a few spots but 85% still snow covered.Same down in Mahwah. The remaining snow and snow piles are solid ice now.
It's been a perfect snowpack melt with not too much rain.Nice and gradual to avoid major flooding here.

So many times they issue wind advisories or warnings and it never materializes, today winds actually reach those levels without the advisory. Phone lines whipping around like jump rope, street lights leaning
51mph @ LGA.
54mph @ Westchester County Airport
