So many times they issue wind advisories or warnings and it never materializes, today winds actually reach those levels without the advisory. Phone lines whipping around like jump rope, street lights leaning
51mph @ LGA.
54mph @ Westchester County Airport
Any airport delays today? With these winds this is not a day I would want to fly.

yep dtone just got the alert on my phone already saw a tree down on CPA heading towards scarsdale. ConEd website reporting some outages already. Even the street lights on solid metal poles are bouncing thats when you know its strong, not advisory because I think not long enough, I think it has to be 6 hrs? Which according to SPS it would be right around, lol funny stuff way NWS handles these things.

Had some incredible gusts here, several telephone poles knocked down, traffic nightmare since they are all on busy streets. PSEG has so many calls can't get to us yet...

You lost ur power, sorry to hear that. It seems here they cannot keep up either, as a half hour ago the outage map was only 500, suddenly jumped to 1500. There are wires down the street from where I am. I cannot see outside but I can still hear the wind, although its not like it was earlier.

Amazingly, only the few homes in the immediate area of the poles down were affected. Rest of town has power...hopefully when they come to repair it they won't have to turn us off...

Why not. Very visible In Poland and their latitude is not that much further north than here.

yes mugs, the poles only affected a few houses in the immediate area. But when PSEG gets here they might have to turn everything off to fix it... so we'll see

Been windy quite a lot the last few days, but earlier tonight was ripping.

On March 19, 1967 there were record lows in NYC of 8 degrees and in many suburbs to the N and W of the city of -5 to -15. Poughkeepsie in the middle of the HV set a record low on this date of -13. A truly remarkable cold spell that lasted for several days right into the first days of spring.
Sun angle and climo don't always win out.

Actually Mugs I was just looking a little further into this.
The cold spell started on March 17th 1967. Poughkeepsie only 65 miles due north of Central Park, saw a low of -3 that morning, followed by lows of -13 on the 18th, and -13 again on the 19th.
NYC saw lows of 12 on the 17th, 8 degrees on the 18th, and 8 degrees again on the 19th. It didn't let up until the first days of spring. I was only 6 at the time so I can't say I remember it, but I agree Mugs a truly remarkable cold spell.

Re: March 2015 Observations & Discussions
Great stuff, CP.I should have remembered this but I don't think it was associated with any snowfall and that's probably why I didn't.I think there was a big snowstorm in Jan or Feb of 1967.In any event, I would have been walking the 1 1/2 miles to and from High School during that cold spell and probably froze my arse off,LOL!
