Low humidity, little rain, warm but not hot.
Just back from a conference in San Diego, and it was certainly much nicer here. In San Diego it was low to mid 60s and overcast and breezy much of the week and we all lamented not being back here for the lovely weather. The locals said it was "cold", which I thought was cute.

San Diego was/is cooler than normal because of this massive upper level low sitting over the SW CONUS
Another trough is shown to move onshore next weekend, too.
And while the trough is over the west, the ridge will be over the east.
May is looking quite warm for us.

Re: May 2015 Observations and Discussions
Sun, sun, go away, come again another day. Rain, rain, come our way, come before we're blown away.....
Too dry. This isn't good. Very hard on the plants this time of year to have no fresh water. Stresses them big time when they're trying to leaf out without water and it's this warm for so long. Gonna be a wet summer and an early fall, I think. We shall see.

Agree on this dry spell rb.Not good now when everything blooming out and getting established.Lawns just got green, they'll burn out brown and yellow soon without rainfall.Guess the reservoirs are going into this in pretty good shape after last winters snowfall, I hope, anyway!

Re: May 2015 Observations and Discussions
And then when Memorial Weekend comes, mother nature will open the floodgates with days of heavy rain from a stalled nor'easter. Back in 2001, after that 26-day stretch that NYC had without any measurable precipitation from April 22nd to May 17th, it changed by Memorial Weekend. In fact, that Saturday (the 26th) I was at a family party in Flemington, NJ and it was a washout, so we were limited to a tent in the yard. The only other time I had been there was December 28th, 2006 for a quick visit and it was nicer then than it was at the partyFrank_Wx wrote:We may not see substantial rainfall until Memorial Weekend
Now, those relatives that were there moved to Florida last January. They like the warm weather.

Re: May 2015 Observations and Discussions
Bummer if that happens, Memorial Day is the traditional opening of the Jersey Shore season and a washout would make it miserable for everyone.Nothing worse than rainy, cool, windy weather if you are renting a shore house. Not much in the line of rain this week, maybe a few showers.Things drying up.

I believe CPK will set a record high min. temp today of 71* breaking the record of 69*.
Unless a sea breeze cools off CPK into the 60s before midnight. Other parts of NYC might but don't think in CPK.

Hello!
My current thinking is the bulk of the rain will occur over the evening Friday into early Saturday morning. The rest of the day Saturday will feature on and off rain showers. I do not expect this to be a washout of a day. There may actually be clearing in the afternoon with some sun. Remind me to give another update either tomorrow or Wednesday for a more accurate picture
