Re: March 2017 Observations & Discussions
For anyone frustrated by yesterdays storm take a good look at the map below. While Alex was in Binghamton sucking all of the moisture out of the surrounding area with his heavy band sitting over him which resulted in 33.5 inches of snow, 40 miles to his west they received 3.5 inches. That my friends would drive me over the edge.

Freehold Boro had almost 2" today1.7"
Storm for this weeeknd shaping up to be a light one for NENJ and NYC 1-3 type of event. LI and SW CT could see 2-4 maybe 3 -6 if things pan out right.
Need 50 miles hmm doesn't this sound familiar???
Crazy, my son's have been on our outdoor ice rink these past two days. Incredible. Tomorrow will make day three.

Hearing the euro and gfs are trending good for a clipper/norlun setup Friday/Saturday been trending farther and farther south. Does anyone have input on this?

Was wondering if our resident stat guys CP or Math know how March has been running temp wise.I'm thinking it's got to be below normal.
NWS has me for 2 to 4 this Saturday.Let the good times roll.
Seeing it get colder mid week next after a brief rise into the lower 40's a few days.

Anyway Upton saying a 1-3" event for NNJ through LI.
Not excited about it.
If I get 2" more I will take it and run and this will give me 17.5" of white gold in 1 week - reminds me of teh 1st week March 2015!

After today, the great melt will begin with daily highs in the upper 30s/lower 40s for the next 4 or 5 days.

during the first 16 days of march 13 have been below normal with 8 of those days -10* or greater. the next 7 days are all forecast to be below normal. cpk is 4.2* below normal so far this month so it looks like the streak of warmer than normal months will be broken..

CPcantmeasuresnow wrote:I'm tracking how quickly or not the mid to late March climate will melt the current snow pack. I picked a flat spot that has no sun until the afternoon.
I ended the evening on Tuesday the 14th with a snow pack of 21 inches.
By Wednesday morning even with frigid overnight temps near 10 the compression had brought it down to 19.5 inches.
With the high of 22 on Wednesday, little sun and snow showers throughout the day the snow pack Thursday morning was 18.8, probably mostly compression more than anything.
After a high of 35 yesterday the snow pack this morning (Friday) was 17.5 inches.
It's standing up pretty well considering the time of year and sun angle. I'm hoping to enter April with the lawn at least still covered. That's my kind of March.
I'll be tracking this every day so people that like to watch paint dry can also follow this. I find it interesting at least, which says a lot about me.
Hey, CP, if you enjoy watching things melt, go to 3:30 on this clip for something a little more interesting!

Classic Doc. I forgot the original thing melted like the wicked witch of the west. I can't believe when I watched those movies on PIX 11 as a little kid in the late 60s they actually scared me. SO tame to what's out there now.

Bust yesterday, not even a coating.Looks like a warm up but then a drop into the 30's late week.Looks too warm on NWS for that crazy snow map the other day.Highs in 40's Saturday and 55 on Sunday.Don't see how a big snowstorm is possible with that.

disappointed by lack of snow yesterday, up to 37.8° already - that March sun will continue to do a number on the dwindling snowpack...

Yep, 39.2 already here, at the high NWS said the day would bring. It's going to be higher than that for sure.Maybe about 14 inches left of the 21 that fell by my eye.Was hoping for a 4 inch boost yesterday but that busted out.Looking at the long range right now, does not look good for any more significant snow but we will see.

Re: March 2017 Observations & Discussions
I got beat up moving the snow around. It was a heck of a storm. But I think March is over and out. I bet we get some rain by the weekend and that will melt it all with unfortunate flooding. Remember in about eight weeks, the leaf canopy will be out. The cold is easing and today I saw 43 with lots of sun. I was chased out of the house for having the wood stove on. Can't even have the heat on because the house is so warm. Windows were open today.

Re: March 2017 Observations & Discussions
The snow..really ice and sleet boulders, are really melting. I noticed large patches of grass visible. It is incredibly wet, that snow pack has huge moisture content. I like snow but I'm sick of the lost lanes of traffic, congestion and impossible parking.
