Tom Petty dead of a heart attack.
One of my all time favorites. It's been a real crappy last year for losing music legends but for me personally this one is the hardest of all of them.

I think this has been walked back from deceased to gravely ill. In other words, I saw reports of his passing but as of 9:15 pm this evening, he is in critical condition...still here. Things look bleak for him.

I swear if this weather continues to be as boring as it has been since the last somewhat big snowstorm I am going to go nuts. I do not recall even one thunderstorm this year. Nothing nada, a few rain storms and very few at that. I;d better see a noreaster with 50+ mph winds and heavy as heck snow!! Now go Frank , make it happen LOL

Well, there some more 80° weather headed our way, that's about as exciting as it will get. That type of heat we got towards the end of September just doesn't go away like that. As I've mentioned before, many mets called for a mild fall. We'll see just how mild it gets. My AC units are up and away, I refuse to put AC on in October. Good thing I have fans.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
I wonder what the odds are for having 3 mildish/ bad winters are. I know some here may think of total snowfall as determining whether or not winter was a bust or not, but I consider winter to be a good one of there is consistency between snowfall and temperature. I mean, 15 inches of snow one day and 60 degrees the next day with a melt fest isn't really what I consider a successful winter. Winters like 13/14 and 14/15 were brutally cold. There was like a snowstorm every week and in between snowstorms there were random snow showers that would add an inch here and there. The temps kept snow on the ground too.

I couldn't agree more Hector that the best, grade A, winters are snowy, AND cold but I tend to look at winter as more of a win or a loss; not necessarily a bust or not. For me what determines a win or loss is heavily weighted on if my back yard receives above normal snow or not. Look at it like a football game, or any game for that matter. A team can play like garbage, but still win the game, and the team can dominate the entire game, but end up losing. The last two winters my team may have played like garbage, and I may have been miserable throughout the course of the game at how my team was playing, but somehow we ended up with the win as seen by above avg snowfall in my back yard. I can live with that and still call the winter a win and be happy. However I am getting a bit tired of playing like crap so Im hoping my team can start to play well(below normal temps) and end with the win(above normal snowfall) this year.
Its been some time since LI had a cold snow less winter so I'm not sure how I would feel as of this moment at the end of such a winter. I guess maybe if the below normal temps dominated the game but there was below avg snowfall, even though I may have lost the game, I would def not feel too bad about the loss seeing as that we dominated the game, but it would def still be a loss. At least by my standards.

Ok enough rambling about silly analogies. Carry on!

Re: Wx Banter Thread 2.0
Ha, great analogies. I guess location is key as well, like northern most cities in Alaska like Barrow. They could 12 inches of snow and that 12 inches will remain there all winter because of how deadly cold it is. I remember I think December of 08 or 09 my wife and I went to Wollman rink and the day before we got hit with a pretty good snow event. We started ice skating and while Christmas music was playing it started snowing again. That was a win for me, I didn't care how else the winter went.

Also, I was never a huge fan of winter like some are here. I do like the fall and October used to be my favorite month. But now October feels like early September and we go from like summer to winter, which sucks. I miss fall.

He might be right; we could be in shorts and tank tops BBQing on Christmas Day. My favorite season is usually fall and spring and favorite month is October. So for me my favorite season is torched literally.... I'll have to wait until next year for fall.

The only good thing I can think of is that we get this out of the way now so December does not torch.

LOL, Hector! I remember an October over 20 years ago when after a cold snap temps shot up into the high 70's and my wife and I took a ride down to Point Pleasant just to sit on a blanket in the sand one last time. That aroma of sausage and peppers from Jenkinson's sent me up there to get one,LOL.Can't imagine doing that in December, but who knows this year.

Yep, Fall is a great time but only if there is "frost on the pumpkin" as old timey lore states. This is ridiculous, hope that SE Ridge does not plague us all winter long. Not liking the pattern right now at all.

Patterns like this which are extreme do not last for seaons. Im pretty sure dec-march will not ave plus 8. I do expect warmer than normal temps for winter as this is the norm right now however I do expect greater than average snowfall. I'm glad this is happening in October and not in the winter months

Of course well have an Indian Summer, don't recall a fall when this did not occur. Nothing new around here .

Right, after an already torched early fall was the point I was getting at.
