Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
I’ll be checking into OTI permanently now. I’ll peek in occasionally at the forum but I’ve thrown in the towel for me. Regardless of what happens and even Monday’s “threat” not withstanding. It’s been a real rough last 5 weeks weather wise in the heart of the coldest part of winter. Thank God for the NAO at least because I had something to drag me in for even longer.
Yes I’m somehow just a tad an snowfall but as I’ve said before it didn’t stick around so it seems like a lot less.
A GIANT F U TO THIS WINTER. I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.

Syo,
Don't forget to come back at least long enough to give the winter a grade. I'd like to start the grading festivities by giving my area a solid D. Not even a Mothrazilla this winter. Only 2 storms coming close, a ridiculously warm Feb and with all of that, the numbers will still say that it looked like a decent winter because of the numerous times an inch or less of snow fell and melted later that day. Not as bad as the super torch of a few years back, but all in all not too far off.
P.S. I relocated the off switch to the Coconut Lounge's security system before I resigned. If you haven't found it already, you will by the time you drink your sorrows away.

I don't like to banter, but........I NEED TO BANTER. THIS STORM SUCKS. I AM GOING TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THESE CRAZY BANDS FROM THE TOP OF MY MOUNTAIN AND IM GONNA BE SUCKING VIRGA. I SWEAR TO GOD IM CURSED WHEN IT COMES TO AWESOME WEATHER. I never give up on systems, but I need this one to end yesterday. I'm so upset over this lol I'm ready to move onto the next one and then the one after, but this storm has broken me for the time being. I think I just need to work on my project and zone out for a while. Have fun all you guys who are getting blitzed, I'm so jealous. Prolific snowfall rates and nothing to show for it. Unbelievable.
Ok, I'm done now.

Yes. And I know, but I couldn't take the chance. I HAD to come home in case we got a lot at home because of unfortunate happenstances going on. Besides, I'm used to missing out, anyway aha

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
I went to bed around 3 AM last night with steady snow. I woke up mid-late morning and saw it was raining (not surprised), and it is now back to snow.
Here's what annoys me: I looked at the CPK observed weather page and saw it was snowing for several hours. Yet I see no indication of any snowfall measurements made at the Conservancy, or anywhere else. Is this yet another instance of unmeasured snow?????

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
Im at 5 right now. My guess is end up with about a foot. Depends on the band. Winter was a disaster pre March. Now its passable because of the 8 inch storm before the heatwave and today. Hopefully we have another storm on Monday and it becomes memorable back end winter. At least winter came through!!!

Rather than post in the Observation section, I'll post here. In the nosebleed seats of the forum, it's 35* under grey skies. Some snow fell earlier, but melted immediately. Also expecting nothing from Monday so I'm downgrading this winter's grade to D-. Sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're a slug looking helplessly as a steamroller gets ready to turn you into a slime smear.

Reminds me of that February 2010 snowstorm living in Mahwah NJ at the time.I got no more than 9 inches of a heavy, wet snow while up in Monroe NY, the home my then GF at the time got over 36 inches.CP knows that storm well. It's part of the unkind and cold hearted pattern that winter snowstorms can be around this Tri state area for snow addicts.Another episode were those Juno and Nemo storms where I had under 10 inches watching force fields and sucking virga while the NJ Shore and LI got over 20 inches. This one I cashed in big with 26 inches measured in Monroe NY by a trained spotter, someone who knows better measuring snow then me.Even a blind squirrel finds a nut.

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
yesterday's storm is one the biggest bust I have ever experienced in my 40 or so years of following weather. while not over the death band that set up in NJ it did snow hard for a good portion of the day but just wouldn't accumulate. areas 10 miles and less to my north end up with 12"+ but about 3 sloppy inches here. the NWS had me at 14" most models between 12-20" right up until start time. it is very unusual to have CPK measure as much snow as me. with their 3.2" I would normally measure at least a couple of inches more here. the last two storms acted very strangely in regards to snowfall accumulations across our area. very different than your typical east coast snowstorm.

Yesterday's storm reminded me of the March 2001 storm. If anyone remember that storm in March 2001 forecasters were saying we're supposed to get 1 to 2 feet of snow I remember NYC schools were shut down we were all excited. The following day when I woke up we only ended up with 3 in of snow what a big bust that storm was because we were supposed to get if I was right anywhere from 15 to 22 inches of snow we only ended up with 5 what a big bust

We had a strange situation in the Hudson valley with the last storm.I got 9 inches (measured by myself and 13 by a trained spotter) but Middletown not far away had 3 and Damian, a little further N and W had very little.Sorry it busted out for you Al, but I have had my share, as we all have on the board, of local busts.

But the trees look so pretty. Lots of small ones bent over with the tops kissing the ground. Very heavy snow to shovel. I did steps four times so I know. If we do get another storm Sun evening, then I see temps are going up later next week. I hope the melt off is gradual and we do not have five inches + of rain, lest there be unfortunate flooding!

Re: Wx Banter Thread 3.0
Somehow westchester and most areas around the NYC area escaped power issues but not so in CT from new haven and east past clinton there is about 8 inches and almost the entire area lost power, my friend had a tree fall on his house and if trees arent down everything id hanging so low that roads are impassable or 1 lane down center. 124,000 outages and the majority coming from those 6 or 7 smaller towns. My parents are fine except no power but my friend is trapped with his very pregnant wife, the tree fell over their bedroom so they are lucky it didnt break through, could have been much worse. Amazing how some areas can handle heavy wet snow and other just lose everything when it happens but I lived there 25 yrs and never heard of damage like this its extreme.dkodgis wrote:But the trees look so pretty. Incredibly we had two feet in a large area of Orange County and I still have power. I probably shouldn't have said anything because it can still happen today. Trees are struggling against the weight.
