I have to find the Ode to Othelia in all these threads and re-post it for luck for Mondays storm.
That's a job for Mikey.
How much does it pay?

Yeah Its been raining here for a while now. From 5-630pm or so it was pretty wild. I guess that what the areas under the death band in Jersey dealt with all day long.
and I did get thunder snow earlier that is always a highlight. Sometimes it works but March snow in the daytime has been known to disappoint lol
Happy for the inland folk getting blasted with snow (except the power outages part). We been on the snow gravy train alot of years lately near the coast, they could use it this time.

I can confirm msmouth flakes in that yellow band too bad it's moving pretty fast.sroc4 wrote:
Cool tidbit this should be in banter but it pertains to the radar. U see that long blank beam from Upton all the way to the nw? There is a tall building blocking the radar. My friend is do annoyed by it he wants to get a petition to move the dopplar or take down the building lol. He actually called the nws they said it's not enough to cause a problem.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
I just finished shoveling what I think was snow. Measured 6.5” on my grass and pool cover. A touch over 4.5” on pavement. Snow has ended and is now raining. Heaviest snow I’ve ever shoveled. Must have had 1.25” liquid in it.
Official measurement 6.5”
Franks map verified here. If I didn’t get caught between the Jersey and Suffolk band from 5-7:30 I would have hit double digits
Great storm. Fun to watch especially after I threw in the towel yesterday. On to Monday

Besides j_man making the yellow list on the map I think Frank should put me and d t o n e on that list too because we got screwed big time .
We only got a lousy 2 inches of slush crappy snow I don't know about j_man if he has more snow

My parents still live at the home I grew up in. It’s in Bellerose on the Queens Nassau border where Math grew up. They got 1”. Jersey 12”+ many areas until you get near the city and the boroughs. Then out here in Nassau by me in Syosset 11 miles EAST almost 7”. As you head east Alex in north central Suffolk will hit double digits. For future forecasts we have to take into account the Urban Heat Island for storms with border line temps
Congrats Jersey and Hudson Valley

I'm at 23.2 now Bob and you've been even with me all day so that sounds reasonable.
WHat a freakin storm. God I love a -NAO, missed it.
Wow! Congrats CP! Still very heavy snow and I’m at At 7" so far. Started accumulating at 4 ish that’s almost a 2”/hr rate avg.. My wife's windshield wipers stopped working while driving home on sunrise highway, so I had to drive down William Floyd parkway to help her. I couldn't see a thing. Left my office at around 5:15. Just got home about 20 mins ago. Should have taken me about 30-40 mins round trip total.
Scott I had a two hour period early this afternoon we received 6 inches. Was under 2-3 inch life bands most of the day.
Still snowing lightly but looks like we end up a couple of tenths of an inch short of two feet. Very glad you guys were able to cash in something on this storm.
Looking forward to seeing everybodys final totals tomorrow morning.
BUT DO YOUR MEASUREMENTS TONIGHT. SNOW THIS HEAVY WILL START TO COMPRESS ON ITSELF RIGHT WHEN IT ENDS EVEN IF YOU DID NOT RECIEVE THAT MUCH.
I'll bet tomorrow morning my snow depth which right now is 25.2 inches will be below 2 feet.

Shafted again. 6.5'' final tally. Short range models performed terribly around my area.

Someone in SW CT is getting 2-3 feet under that band. They've been under it since mid afternoon.

I spent several hours strolling through both the Upper East Side (where I live) and Central Park. I'm a bit worn out but I'll explain perhaps later this evening why I can't blame the Conservancy for the 2.5" snow measurement as of 6:50 PM.

Going with 7.8" here. Very hard to measure because of compaction, but I think that's my best estimate right now

The plow guy just came and I took a check out to him but it was just an excuse to measure the snow. It is no longer snowing so Lee Goldberg was right. NWS had it until 2 am. My total is 25". This was a good day out.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
I have not gone out and its too much to get all dressed go out the building to an area where I can measure so I will hope Al or yonkers spotters will report it. Its got to be more than 3 inches as I had that this afternoon, but not a lot more, qpf prolly easily 1.0+ really sad It snowed so freaking hard all afternoon and evening.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
My final total is 8.25” (compaction not accounted for). That includes almost .5” I woke up to but melted, so 7.75” from main event. Interestingly I had virtually no snow accumulation all morning (none that I measured at least). It was light, mixed and all melted on contact. My entire accumulation (except the 1/2” overnight) was between 12:30 and about 6:00. If I had gotten in on any decent accumulating morning snow I easily would have been double digits.

14.25 here looks lime were done. What is impressive is that a foot or more of that came in a 8 hour period when sun angle was strongest. I am satisfied now this winter had a good storm.

That band runs right over my house Frank and it’s just drizzling

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
Amazing the differences in totals. I had to deputize some trustworthy folks since I am away and they measured 8" in Westwood, and as you head east and south by about 5 miles they only got 2" of slush. Go west about 10 miles and they got 24".... definitely lots of banding.

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
After reading Bill gs post I am going to amend my total upwards. I had 1.5” this morning by 5:30 am. But it then melted. This afternoon I got 6.5” which was my measurement. So 8” for the entire event. Near 40” for the season with only 3 real weeks of cold weather. Pretty amazing
looked at official NWS reports from near me and the next town over reported 4.7”. Bull crap. People don’t know how to measure. It’s 4.7” now but atv5:30 it was almost 7. Mutants

Re: Pain in the Butt March 7th Godzilla: Observations
I never got higher than 18 inches out front. It held there for several hours and now it’s started to compact and is down to 17.5 inches. At one point I measured 21 inches on my deck in the back. My neighbor’s son a couple of blocks away said he measured over 2 feet on his street, not sure of the exact amount.
The highway is still closed, so no plows can get to my neighborhood. This is absolutely nuts!
It does look gorgeous out there! And very peaceful with 2 feet of unplowed snow in the street.

The trees here are really bent down under the weight. I think I lost some small ones behind my property. I am quite surprised we have not lost power. Not that I want that to happen for anyone, but with heavy snow like this... . The big difference was low wind.
