Re: July 2018 Obs and Discussion
At the South Jersey shore in Cape May County. Currently 74* and Cloudy with a light rain just starting to fall. Winds are about 15 mph with slightly higher gusts. Very breezy but nothing too dramatic yet. Radar shows heavy stuff approaching soon. Keeping an eye on possible street flooding down here which could be an issue this afternoon or evening.

Not a perfect Beach day I am getting stung by wind driven sand and the sound is very choppy with white caps

Rain has picked up a bit in intensity. Just had a heavier band come through with a downpour, but generally still light to moderate. Winds ENE at 21 mph with occasional higher gusts.

That would be my family. Only week in the Summer that worked for us. Renting a house on Delaware Shore Monday-Friday. Should I expect complete rainout each day or occasional sun with thunder storms?

Doesn't look like a complete washout, 1 or 2 wetter days, and some showery. I'm concerned too with the carnival I'm running next week... maybe we'll get lucky and it will not be as wet as forecast.

Mom, you're right, that period is usually nice and tranquil.Hope your boat trip was a lot of fun in spite of the brief hot spell. What did you think of the new Tappan Zee Bridge?I think you had said in an earlier post you were up the Hudson.
Beautiful morning here, partly cloudy, cool, nice breeze.Calm before the storm personified.
Doc, it was, sorry for my complaints about the heat..lol..I loose my mind with heat..my son and husband just laugh at me...It was a wonderful and relaxing trip once the heat broke. I love all bridges and always try to see the beauty of all of them thru my camera lens..I found it neat to see the old one next to the new. How far are you from the Hudson. ( I know this all belongs in banter..getting to observation thought.. )...the river was the calmest I have ever seen it and the warmest there were parts where the water temperature was almost in the mid 80's. p.s. love the Cold Springs area..I don't think that is too far from you?

Torrential wind-driven rain has arrived in Cape May County. Gusty winds and the rain is blowing sideways. Street flooding to follow I’m sure.

Hey, Mom, I'll start with an observation to keep the thread in that direction.Cloudy and rainy,LOl.
I grew up and lived within 5 to 35 miles of the Hudson. It sure can get very calm, especially when the tides change lower down.My Dad had a small motorboat in 1962, maybe 14 feet, and we used to go from the Fort Lee Boat Basin at the foot of the George Washington Bridge up to the old Tappan Zee.On a calm day, it was easy.Just had to watch the wakes of tankers or Tugboats with barges. Then you had a nice 3 or 4 foot swell head your way,LOL.Right now, they are taking apart the old Tappan Zee, a good chunk is gone now.The southern new span is set to open later this year.My all time favorite is still the George Washington Bridge, probably because I lived in Fort Lee NJ from 1956 to 1977, and walked across it many times.
Cold Springs is maybe an hour from me.I take Route 6 across the Bear Mountain Bridge.Great little town with quaint shops to stroll and a nice restaurant by the river.Love the hills right on the Hudson there.
LOL, right with you on the heat Mom.I could take it much better as a youngster, not now.

Total of .93" of rain since yesterday, not too bad here in NENJ. Not much wind either, honestly almost every time the spc puts out watches or warnings for my area it's a bust....
