sloppy drive home. roads not too bad. looks like Dutchess putnam border was about where the snow lastest longer. still 25 here. with sleet when its doing stuff. 4 compacted inches with a layer of ice on top. shoveling its amazing how cold the storm started with light fluffy snow then covered with ice. very cold good ratio snow to too warm for snow like that.

From a forecasting perspective, the storm busted low at 9 1/2" from a forecasted 12-18. Also, it might be the lightest snow I've ever seen in my life. I could have used a broom instead of a shovel.

Sounds about right for this winter...I think you are still high man/woman on the board for a single storm this season!

Nope the HV people all received between 9-13 inches from the November 15th storm. Everyone seems to forget that one. Even NYC recieved 6.4 inches from that one.

Between the November storm and last night, I've gotten about 22". There have been a bunch of dustings (not enough to even cover the sidewalks totally) and that's been the winter. Having said all of that, even if I end up having the most snow on the board this season the winter will be an overall disappointment.

I was pretty sure that was the case. But I hadn't seen any signs any of you yet, and I was gettin' a little worried. So, I figured a renegade fact spewing would lure you out. lol
Any issues with the ice?

Final snow tally 5.0 inches.
Changed to freezing rain and sleet about 1AM which has now compacted to 4.5 inches of snow, ice that I can walk on top of.
30.0 degrees after most of the night in the low to mid 20's.
Not as much ice on the trees as you would think, I believe most must have fallen as sleet or ice pellets.
Pretty much what I expected except I still have power, for now.

That was technically fall though, the meteorological winter hadn't even started yet. How far back are we aloud to go and call it "this season" lol?

This season runs from July 1 2018 to June 30th 2019. It's a rule that's rarely used though as I don't know of any snow into May or June outside of that one picture my mom has of a coating on the ground in May from back into the late 60s or early 70s.

Most of December is technically fall, and most of March is technically winter.
As Aresian said the snow season is calculated from July 1 to June 30. Anything that falls in October, November , March or April is all part of the same snow season.
Down to 27.0 now after a high of 30.0. Going out now to clean the 4.5 inches of snow/ice/sleet from driveway. If I'm not heard from for the next year assume the worst.

Precip has stopped for now. radar shows another round coming..we are at 2 inches of rain for this storm so far and at 51* that is insane...winds are just about hitting the double digits..I guess they will pick up later since we are in a gale warning? just sitting and looking at my snow flakes on the ceiling. I am not putting away the snowflake projector until we get a real storm..might be the only flakes I see this year the way it is going...ha ha

CP, I think NWS nailed it for us in their last forecast last night when they downgraded from 6 to 10 to 4 to 8.That 5 inches was right on.They also called for the changeover around midnight.I think I have more ice than you got, pretty good covering on the trees.Dead calm now, nothing coming down, 29 degrees.Radar looks dry.NWS also mentioned back end dried up and that happened as well.Maybe we will get a few snow squalls when the temps drop.Driveway guy plowed, I did the small walk in front and hoping for a bump above freezing to melt the icy residue so all dries before the temperatures plunge tonight.

How much snow?
Probably hard to calculate your peek depth since I'm sure it has compacted from the sleet and freezing rain.
28 here now and moderate sleet/freeezing rain. Last batch I think

Current temperature here is 12*F with a wind chill of -2*F. There is also a wind chill warning in effect until tomorrow evening with possible wind chills as low as -35*F. It's a good day for non-polar bears to stay inside.

So, did the icy precip threat also under-perform throughout our area?
Looks like coastal NE is in for a really miserable afternoon...
From northern CT on up is already getting covered in a hearty sheet of sleet/frz rn
and it figures to on for some time and get heavier

Look at the wide spectrum within the group. We've got mom reporting a temp of 51 with about 2 inches of rain. Meanwhile aresian at 12 degrees with about a foot of snow. I know we all want snow, but that's pretty remarkable coverage for the forum area. It does make for interesting storm coverage, disappointing or not.
Meanwhile didn't see a flake of snow here in midtown Manhattan while Jman and dtone saw some snow in the Bronx and just outside nyc in Westchester. No man's land set up shop right over NYC for this one.
