And of course like most storms 10 days out it will never happen, and certainly not as depicted here if it ever did.

These are indeed desperate times. People's souls are being tried. CP fudging his measurements. People proudly displaying February sprouting daffodils. Another cold rainy day. Wow. Sad. I am appalled. What was once a proud weather site has turned into Warmacist Reprieve. At least its going to be cold tomorrow. Forecast a low of 8°F. Maybe I'll spray some water in the cold air and pretend its freezing precipitation. Truly pathetic. Hope you are happy, Mikey P.
On a serious note, I hope the roads are ok tomorrow. Temps that cold could freeze wet roads and driving could become dangerous.

I stooped along the road at West Point just to watch the snow making machines in action on the slopes. Yes, Jan was warm and this says it was the.hottest.Jan.in.141.years

CP is the soul of discretion. He would never fudge measurements. CP: shake it off, kid.

Look, I am not saying CP intentionlally fudges numbers. The man has integrity. He is a strict Coldicist. An ally. Sadly, this lack of snow has been known to....well....bend good men's minds.

You kids today. You just don't appreciate the hard work we did. Back in the day we had real snow. Not like today. Like 96, 78, 83, or 1888. Good years.

I see the debate has been carried over to the banter section. It appears the lhv crew are so disillusioned by this winter, it seems a conspiracy is brewing. As Grselig so succinctly has observed, basically desperate times call for desperate measures. The portrayal of the lhv as some sort of winter wonderland has had its reputation tarnished by the low numbers this winter, and this is the means to an end.

While NYC has had 4.8" of snow this season, here in Albany, the minor snow event I had last night put my seasonal snow total over 40."

Math23x7, perfect timing on your move to Albany! Northern New England has done fine this year.CP's 30 year average in NYC of 30 inches is in jeopardy right now as I think we need around 15 inches more in Central Park by December 31 2020.Pattern set in concrete against us as it has been since mid December.

Heading up to Stowe tonight. Euro says -18 for the low with -30 wind chill. Luckily rather short lived so can hit the slopes w/out freezing to death.

First of all Doc had you been a regular reader of the weather statistics thread you would already know the answer to this since I posted about this very subject there two weeks ago. I'm disappointed it's not the first thread you open each morning before your NY times app.
Actually Doc, NYC now needs 12.9 inches of snow by next December 31 to reach a 30 year average of 30 inches per season for the 1991-2020 period to be calculated next January. What seemed like a lock for them two years ago seems to be more and more unlikely to happen. With the way this winter is fading into oblivion without a whimper and with the unreliability of November and recent Decembers if I was a betting man I'd now bet against it happening.
Here's the average snowfall per month at Central Park since January 1991 through January 2020:
October......0.1
November...0.5
December...4.9
January......8.7
February...10.5
March.........5.1
April...........0.4
Total......30.3
WTS even if it doesn't snow anymore between now and next December 31st they will have a 29.6 inch average so we could always round up. Of course they're close enough now that one MECS could put them over the top but those have been hard to come by in the past couple of years.

Re: Banter Thread 5.0
LOL, CP! Your statistics thread is much more interesting than the NYT.
Anyway, your right, I thought at the start of this winter, that NYC 30 inches was a lock too, but it's becoming more of a long shot.Your looking at around 6.5 inches in March and 6.5 inches in December , with an outside shot of something in November.Don't know my friend!

If there's no measureable snow in late February or March,it's time to sell the snowblower(moving hopefully spring/summer)

When I saw the early season snow I became skeptical about the chances for the rest of the winter. It is like a curse of the early season snow or something

I'm lagging behind your 40", but considering how horrible winter has been for most of the board I'm happy with the approximately 30" that has fallen here this winter.
