Nasty storm rolling in here. Black sky, crash after crash of thunder and heavy rain just starting. Lots of lightning.

My lights have flickered but not gone off (yet). Incredibly loud thunder and frequent lightning with windswept heavy rain here. Sump pump running almost continuously. They just issued a flash flood warning for my area - expecting maybe over 4” of rain - already 2” in some places in a very short time.

Re: July 2019 observations and discussion
Ugh. First time since I got my sump pump installed 4 years ago that I have water in my basement. Rain so hard that the water squirted through a small foundation hole right over my interior French drain onto the floor. Guess I gotta plug that now.

frank insanely heavy rain some wind swept rain from time to time, calmed down now though we did just have lightning out of nowhere. Overall not as exciting as the 17th.

Re: July 2019 observations and discussion
More than 200,000 New Jersey residents still without power presently. The outages peaked at about 360,000 yesterday evening at the height of the storm. 200,000 is a pretty steep number of outages statewide. Also many roads closed or impacted by flooding this morning and houses damaged by downed trees.

Re: July 2019 observations and discussion
Hardest hit areas for power outages stretches from the Delaware River just south of Trenton east to the Monmouth County beaches. 90 percent of the customers in Wall Township and 91 percent in Upper Freehold are still without power.

I saw video of what looked like easily 70-80mph sustained on the above video at the end, looked like a hurricane. There were warnings down there with winds that high so it wouldnt surprise me.

I have never seen it get that dark that I can remember. Yesyterdays storms clouds were not as dark. We had some pretty heavy winds here on the 17th too.frank 638 wrote:same over here the rain is letting up but you are right the 17th was the best lots of lightning that was a great stormjmanley32 wrote:frank insanely heavy rain some wind swept rain from time to time, calmed down now though we did just have lightning out of nowhere. Re: July 2019 observations and discussion
Today is sort of a false advertising day. Early this week they talked about Wednesday being cooler with a high of 80 and with low humidity. I guess technically the 80s are cooler than 100, but it’s 81* at 11am and the dew point is mid-60s. That’s not terribly comfortable. I guess the humidity is higher than I was expecting more than anything. I mean, I’ll still take it over 100 with dewpoints in the 70s - but I was hoping for something more Fall-like for a day or two.

I'm at 82.9° with humidity at 55%, gorgeous out!

73* with dewpoints in the low 50s in Central PA. THAT’s what I’m looking for. Lol. I guess I’ll have to wait a few more weeks - or drive 100 miles west - for those conditions.

Now things are heading in the right direction. After a High of 84 this afternoon, the temp is now down to 80 and the dewpoint 60 and dropping. With those trends looks like a perfect evening ahead.

Re: July 2019 observations and discussion
Beginning to think we may open the first-half of August on the cooler side overall. Where the heck is this setup five months from now
However, I can see how areas south of the Mason-Dixon don’t get to fully cash in on the relatively cooler temperatures in the means thanks to the highly anomalous warmth in the Western Atlantic feeding back.

As a follow-up to that, if the evolution I’m currently envisioning turns out to be correct, or at least close, we may have a tropical threat to talk about in the Gulf and/or off the Southeast coast during this same period.
