Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
Here in Albany, the past several hours have featured a big band of snow just sitting over me. When all is said and done, widespread 20-25" snow totals could be expected here in the tri-city region (which is the term given for Albany-Troy-Schenectady)

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
12.0 inches on the ground and about half of that after sunset tonight.
Looks like snow is Finally done here. When this first started I said I’d be satisfied with 6-8 and ecstatic with a foot. As late as late this afternoon I never thought I’d get anything close to a foot. Label me ecstatic.

11.3 by trained spotter here CP.That low off the coast did build up to bring steady snow into our area after 7 PM last night. We were under a persistent band of moderate snow most of last night.

Measured 4" this morning while cleaning off the cars. I was hoping for more, but at this early juncture I'll take it.

Call it an inch IMBY and be done with it. 600' elevation couldn't save me from white rain and precip just never blossomed in my hood.
That is how the cookie crumbles sometimes, I move on...

congrats to the NW folks, you did well on this one. Great start to winter!

Amazing the difference across the state, I did see banding just west of me yesterday, plus they have a little more elevation. I'm calling about 3.5" here, with probably another inch or so of white rain. Temps were just at 32°-33° most of the day and didn't go below freezing until last night. Mugs and I in the snow hole again! 29° now and what has fallen has a little ice to it.

Math23X7, you have experienced what I saw many times in the 1950's and 1960's, a classic "areas N and W" of New York City snowstorm.Cp and I got a foot and areas close to NYC only a few inches. That was the pattern over and over again those years.Congrats on being in the bullseye for this one!

Clear roads fine and enough snow to make a microsnowman. Lol it stinks but wow on some of these totals only a bird's eye away. I did get a 2 HR delay somehow.

Yeah, when I was a kid (70's-80's) that was the trend. North and west always got the good stuff. I wonder if this is the beginning of a trend.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
I'll call it 1" here, and that is being generous. And none of that was on roads or sidewalks. This was not my storm. But congrats to the folks further north who seemed to cash in. Hey my yard is covered with a coating of snow as opposed to browning grass, so all in all, not a bad way to start December.

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
After a roller coaster 24 hrs of expectations, down here in central Ocean county we got...exactly what was progged from the start. A coating to an inch. Probably a 1/2" to be more fair. Loved how poised and primed we ended up being to bust super high, though. Especially this early in the season.
It would be cool to try to superimpose the member map over a snowfall map, to get a more visual depiction of 'how everyone made out'. Anyway, fun event for sure, sorry to those in the real bust zones, hurrah for those that cashed in, and kudos and thanks for the all the updates and analysis!

I wound up with 11 inches of white gold. That's a nice storm to start the season. A lot of places got hammered with over 2 feet.

Just saw the latest snow totals for the storm on NWS.The trained spotter had me for 11.3 inches but now I see it's been changed to 10 inches.Correcting my total now on my signature.I'll take that 10 in a heartbeat!

Re: December 1st-2nd Winter Storm Observations
I measured just over 10.5 inches IMBY this morning. However I note that a trained spotter recorded Lake Hopatcong for 9.3 inches total accumulation. I suspect the extra inch I received was the result of me being 1000ft up, as opposed to where the spotter took his/her measurement down the mountain.
So I will call it a nice even 10 inches for my first event. And somehow didn't lose power, despite most of the surrounding neighborhoods being in the dark. Thats a win!
Bring on the next one.

Sometimes trained spotters aren't that good tbh. The trained spotter in my town sucks. I actually took a trained spotter class and got a certificate but I have lost it. I just contacted NWS Albany to see if they have it on file as I want to start making obs in the future.
